«Breaking News» Confrontation on the Temple Mount: Israeli police round up 60 suspects

Israeli police rounded up 60 'suspects' in Jerusalem overnight and promised more arrests Friday, after Palestinian and Arab Israeli worshippers broke into a locked part of Jerusalem's holy city to pray.

Several more 'Arabs' were arrested at midday today for 'causing a disturbance' as hundreds arrived for Friday prayers in defiance of police threats

The crackdown followed 'calls for public disturbances' at Muslim prayers, said spokesman for the Israeli police Micky Rosenfeld.

A group of Muslims posted videos of themselves praying in a disused part of the Al-Asqa mosque site on Monday, 16 years after it was locked by an Israeli court order.

'As part of the police preparations based on intelligence, police arrested 60 suspects involved in incitement to violence,' said Mr Rosenfeld.

'Police will continue to make arrests.'

Mr Rosenfeld said the detainees were 'Arabs', a term that could refer to Palestinians or to Arab citizens of Israel.

Israeli public radio said that all were residents of Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, occupied by the Jewish state in the 1967 Six Day war.

The confrontation was said to be over Muslim worshippers' anger at Israeli control of prayer spaces in the holy city.

An official statement said police numbers in and around the Al Aqsa compound - in east Jerusalem's walled Old City - had been beefed up.

The site is the third-holiest in Islam and a focus of Palestinian aspirations for statehood.

It is also the location of Judaism's most holy spot and a frequent scene of conflict between the two sides.

Any Israeli move seen by Palestinians as seeking to increase Israel's presence there is liable to ignite Muslim anger.

There have been scuffles there for the past few days after Israeli authorities put new chains on a door, known as the Golden Gate or Gate of Mercy in Arabic, to disused offices.

The offices were closed by an Israeli court order in 2003, police say, but video posted on social media showed Muslim officials praying there last week in defiance of the court ban.

Police said they arrested five people on Monday and 19 on Tuesday over the scuffles.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
