A bereaved sibling has shared heartbreaking pictures of her opium addict sister at a funeral home taken ten months apart showing her both alive and dead.
The first image of Lexus Felton, 21, from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, showed her posing next to her grandmother's coffin in March 2018 but only a short while later in December of 2018 she was being laid to rest after overdosing on heroin.
Lexus's sister Chrystal Charlesworth, 24, wrote on Facebook: '10 year challenge? Let’s talk about a (almost) 10 MONTH challenge.'
Heartbreaking: Chrystal Charlesworth shared a two pictures about her sister, Lexus Felton, on Facebook. The first picture shows her at a funeral in March 2018
Terrible: The second picture shows Lexus from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, at her own funeral after she died from a heroin overdose in December 2018
Horrible: The sister used the post as an (almost) 10 month challenge to show how the opioid epidemic is a national crisis impacting many families
Sad: 'Little did I know that when I took the first picture of my inappropriately hilarious, charismatic little sister that it would end up having such a surreal meaning,' Chrystal wrote
Upsetting: 24-year-old Chrystal (pictured) explained how her sister was an addict who struggled with opioid addiction
She continued: 'Picture one was taken March of 2018 at my grandmothers funeral. The second picture was taken December of 2018 at my sisters funeral.
'In both pictures my sister, Lexus, is in the exact same church room, wearing the exact same shirt, and laying in the exact same kind of casket my grandmothers in.
The struggle: Lexus was jailed for three and a half months starting in April after she admitted to taking heroin
'Little did I know that when I took the first picture of my inappropriately hilarious, charismatic little sister that it would end up having such a surreal meaning behind it just a few short months later.'
Chrystal explained how her sister managed to stay sober during her grandmother's funeral but she was an addict at that time and was also on probation after being arrested for drugs possession.
In a desperate attempt to get Lexus off the drugs her mom, Christy, took her to her probation officer in April and she was jailed for three and a half months after admitting she had been taking heroin.
'Lexus abided willingly because she genuinely wanted the help and I truly believe in my heart that she wanted to stay clean,' her sister said.
She stayed in prison as she waited for a bed to open up at a rehabilitation center in Philadelphia her mom had chosen.
Lexus was eventually transferred there in August and completed three months of therapy and rehabilitation before returning home.
'My family and I were SO excited and happy to have her back, as she was to be home,' Chrystal said.
'My sister would have only 37 full days left with us. On the 38th day she would die of a heroin overdose.'

Sister, sister: Lexus was home for 37 days and on the 38th day, she died from a heroin overdose
Chrystal continued: 'Out of those 38 days she only used for three of them. It only took THREE days of using again.
'It only took one last hit for her body to go into cardiac arrest and ultimately cause her to take her last breath. '
'My sister died somewhere between 5:40AM-6:00AM (December 8). She was to be home at 7AM, just an hour later.'
Chrystal said she was sharing the 'uncomfortable' pictures to shine a light on the problem of opioid addiction.
'Opioid addiction is a national crisis! It is an epidemic! In one single hour, eight people will die from an opioid overdose,' she said.
'Will someone you love be one of those unlucky eight? Will YOU be one of them? I know I never thought I’d be someone who had to go through the reality of burying someone I love due to this issue.'
She continued: 'And I hate that more people will have to going forward. Please, use my sister as an example. Use her story to fear taking that next hit or use it as motivation to confront your loved one about their addiction.'
'It’s not okay to ignore this problem or to pretend like you’re better than this to have an impact on you the way that it has for me. Lets be real, no one is safe these days from this affecting them.
'Maybe you aren’t an addict BUT maybe your sister is, maybe it’s your dad, friend, coworker, or neighbor who is secretly addicted. “Junkies” don’t always look the way that we think or see in movies.
'Addiction hides in the everyday faces all around us.. So, let’s keep talking about this issue and raising awareness. Please, feel free to share. There are many out there who need to face this reality.'
Terrifying: 'Opioid addiction is a national crisis! It is an epidemic! In one single hour, eight people will die from an opioid overdose,' Chrystal said
Raising awareness: Chrystal wanted her post about Lexus (who is pictured with their mom) to be used as an example for others
Not forgotten: 'Use her story to fear taking that next hit or use it as motivation to confront your loved one about their addiction,' Chrystal said
Love: Chrystal wanted to reiterate that 'junkies' don't all look the same. She hoped her post about Lexus (pictured) could help other families
Chrystal's Facebook post was shared more than 23,000 times after she first posted the two pictures in January. The sister later created another post to comment on people who were upset by the two funeral pictures being shared across social media.
'I’ve gotten a lot of comments calling me (and my sister) a weirdo, insensitive, and disrespectful, for the pictures I posted of her a few days ago,' Chrystal wrote.
'Imagine being so uptight and sensitive that you judge people you don’t know a thing about over a photo because YOU’RE offended by it.
'I understand to some they would never want their photos taken after life (and that should be respected) but it really is not that taboo.'
She went on to explain how her family believes in celebrating loved ones 'through their deaths'. The family was described as 'goofy, loud, and open-minded' who didn't take offense to things as easily.
The post went on to explain how not everything is intended for social media, and the two intimate pictures were originally just for the family.
'BUT I felt a strong urge (let's call it my sister speaking through me) to share them because there is a bigger message here then I, my sister, or everyone in my family combined, that needed to be shared,' Chrystal wrote.
'I refuse to be a part of the many who allow this epidemic to be shoved in the dark and pretend like it doesn’t exist.'
Chrystal understood the pictures made people feel uncomfortable, but she wanted that message to reiterate why everyone needed to pay attention to the opioid epidemic.
The sister also thanked everyone who shared her post and offered kind words while her family mourned the loss of Lexus. The post, according to Chrystal, has helped at least two people seek help for their own addiction.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
