«Breaking News» What your Myers-Briggs Type says about you as a partner

The Myers-Briggs Personality Test identifies how people interact and make decisions.

And according to dating expert Debbie Rivers, it can be helpful in navigating relationships and understanding what type of partner you are.

The Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator is based on four dichotomies: Extroverts and Introverts, Sensing and Intuition, Thinking and Feeling, and Judging and Perceiving.

Ms Rivers told FEMAIL on Thursday that no matter if you're an extrovert or an introvert, a great relationship needs compromise and communication.

What is the Myers-Briggs Personality Test?

* A test that identifies how people interact with the world and make decisions

* Combinations of four preferences make up the 16 personality types

* The four preferences are: Extroverts and Introverts, Sensing and Intuition, Thinking and Feeling, and Judging and Perceiving

Extroverts and Introverts

This dichotomy involves understanding whether one person becomes energised by interacting with the outside world, or prefers to lead a rather private life.

Ms Rivers said that if you're dating your opposite, there needs to be communication.

'Work out your partner's personality type in the early stages of dating, and be prepared to work through any differences. If you communicate and understand your likes and dislikes, you'll easily be able to make compromises,' she explained.

'However if one person in the relationship, say always wants to stay out and you don't, then this may become a hurdle later down the track,' Ms Rivers added.

Sensing and Intuition

One senses, takes in information in a literal or logical manner and one uses their intuition uses abstract concepts.

'This can provide a few challenges in the relationship, as the couple will communicate so differently,' Ms Rivers said.

However it's not bad news, with Ms Rivers suggesting that the couple 'use each other's strengths.'

'If one person is the more logical type, they can perhaps be the one that pays the household bills, while the other dreams up holiday vacation ideas,' she said.

Thinking and Feeling

This dichotomy focuses on decision making - those with a thinking preference will take a step back and look at things objectively, while those with a feeling preference, will base their decisions on values and ethics.

Ms Rivers said that once again, there needs to be communication in the relationship.

'If you're constantly arguing, this can be a deal-breaker,' she explained. 'However it's also common for chemistry to shut down one's judgement.'

'Research has shown that chemistry can last from three months to three years, so often in the early stages of a relationship, one may overlook certain behaviours. And once they're out of that chemistry stage, it can prevent a few hurdles.'

Judging and Perceiving

How do you conduct your life in the outside world? Do you have a judging preference, or are you more of the perceiving type?

Those with a judging preference like to plan and structure their lives, while those with a perceiving preference are more fluid in time and space.

'I tell couples that counselling is better sooner rather than later,' Ms Rivers said. 'If you're having differences in how you go about daily tasks, it can be a great way to acknowledge this head-on.'

The Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator is based on four dichotomies:...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
