«Breaking News» Trump reportedly said he did NOT want to do Oval Office speech on wall

President Donald Trump reportedly told television news anchors that advisors had pressured him into an Oval Office speech on border security and a planned visit to the border.

During an off-the-record lunch on Tuesday, Trump said that it was not his idea to deliver the speech or visit the southern border, two sources briefed on the meeting told the New York Times. 

The lunch, in the White House's Roosevelt Room, came hours before Trump delivered his prime-time address to the nation on Tuesday night - but the President made clear that he doubted the speech and border visit would be effective, the report claimed. 

'It's not going to change a d**n thing, but I'm still doing it,' Trump said of the planned border visit, one of the people who was in the room told the Times.

Trump said the border trip was merely a photo opportunity, the source claimed. 

'But these people behind you say it's worth it,' Trump reportedly added, gesturing at communications aides Bill Shine, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kellyanne Conway.  

Top news personalities including CNN's Chris Cuomo, Fox News Channel's Bret Baier and ABC's George Stephanopoulos attended the lunch, which lasted about an hour and 20 minutes.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway says the group had a 'robust exchange' and 'questions were asked and answered.'

Baier said on-air that attendees agreed to quote only one line from the president: 'It was wonderful having lunch with you today.'

But he said that the White House believes the wall is a winning issue for Trump, whose refusal to sign a budget without billions for the border has forced a partial government shutdown.

Hours after the lunch, Trump spoke to the nation from the Oval Office for the first time in his presidency. 

Trump argued the wall was needed to resolve a security and humanitarian 'crisis,' blaming illegal immigration for what he said was a scourge of drugs and violence in the U.S. and asking: 'How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job?'

He claimed the standoff could be resolved in '45 minutes' if Democrats would just negotiate, but previous meetings have led to no agreement. 

Democrats in response accused Trump appealing to 'fear, not facts' and manufacturing a border crisis for political gain.

Using the formal trappings of the White House, Trump hoped to gain the upper hand in the standoff over his demand for $5.7 billion to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. 

He plans a visit to the border Thursday as he continues to pitch what was a signature promise of his 2016 presidential campaign.

He addressed the nation as the shutdown stretched through its third week, with hundreds of thousands of federal workers going without pay and some congressional Republicans growing increasingly jittery about the spreading impact of the impasse. 

Trump will visit the Capitol on Wednesday to meet with Senate Republicans, and has invited Democratic and Republican congressional leaders to return to the White House to meet with him later that day.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
