«Breaking News» Swedish tourist loses his LEG after being shot by robber who tried to steal his phone in Argentina

A Swedish tourist has been forced to have his leg amputated after he was shot during a robbery in the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires.

Christoffer Persson, 36, was walking through Buenos Aires with his girlfriend Maria Izzo, 35, when they were targeted by a mugger.

CCTV footage shows a man jumping out of the back of a car and running over to the couple to rob them off their phones at gunpoint.

The couple had been travelling around Argentina to celebrate Christmas, Mr Persson's birthday - which falls on Christmas Eve - as well as the New Year, and had arrived in Buenos Aires on 20th December.

The couple's happy holiday turned into a disaster when he was shot during the robbery on New Year's Eve.

'It was a total reflex, his father Jörgen Persson told Expressen. 'He tried to batter away the pistol and a shot was fired, hitting him in the thigh.'  

Mr Persson, a computer systems engineer, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. 

Despite several operations, the doctors were forced to amputate his right leg above the knee the following day.

Hospital director Nestor Hernandez said: 'If the leg had not been amputated, the patient could have died. 

'Whether it was here, in United States, Russia or China, the procedure would have been the same.'

He added that Mr Persson was recovering well in the circumstances and would remain in the hospital's intensive care unit for the time being.

Ms Izzo, said: 'The robber seemed to be on drugs. It looked like he'd never held a weapon before. 

'It was like he was scared, I don't think he had any intention of shooting anyone.'

She thanked a woman passerby, named only Analia, who rushed to help them and tied a tourniquet around Mr Persson's leg, adding: 'Without her, he would have died.'

Ms Izzo is with her boyfriend in hospital while his parents have also flown out to be by his bedside.

She added: 'The surgeons are positive, he is ok, and in good spirits. He is a very optimistic person and remains positive despite what happened.' 

Police have launched an investigation into the incident which happened in the Tacuari area of Buenos Aires.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
