«Breaking News» Sexism row hits Britain's biggest tractor show after exhibitor hires two F1 style dancers

An agricultural firm has come under fire after using models to pose in front of their products during Britain's biggest tractor show.

Machinery manufacturer Agrifac has now found itself amid a sexism row after encouraging visitors and guests to take selfies with their glamorous models at the Lamma show in Birmingham.  

During the agricultural show on January 9, the company also posted pictures of competition winners posing with 'grid girls' Bec Quinn and Melissa Sharp.

Outspoken critics have now taken to social media to express their frustration at the company's decision to use the 'grid girls'.

Manager of Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park, Kate Lord, described the decision to use the models as an 'insult' to the women who work in the industry.

On Twitter she wrote: 'It’s 2019 for goodness sake.

'What an embarrassment for our industry and an insult to the women who work in it.' 

Another Twitter user, Jim Clark, wrote: 'Totally agree so outdated and poor judgement from Agrifac wonder what the woman who work for them think.' 

Kate Christie commented: 'Unbelievable objectifying women. Can't believe this still goes on.'

However, others on social media supported the company's decision to use the models. 

@EvenStephen wrote: 'It's their choice to do the work. Stop attacking them. If thet are confident and happy to work in promotion let them. Lots of men do the same in bars and shows. No issue with that.'

Critics took to Twitter to air their frustration at the decision to use the glamorous models at the tractor show

While Ben Sockett wrote: 'So a girl who wants to be a model can't be because you don't think it's right? That sounds a little backwards to me...' 

The criticism comes nearly a year after Formula One announced it would no longer use walk-on grid girls during its tournaments.

In a statement in 2018 the racing company said they felt the practice was no longer 'appropriate or relevant to Formula 1 and its fans, old and new, across the world.'

However, others Twitter users expressed their support of the company's decision to use the models

The decision to ban grid girls by Formula One also came days after the Professional Darts Corporation banned the practice of walk-on girls accompanying darts players during competitions.

Commenting on Agrifac's 'grid girls', managing director Zoe Rutherford told the BBC: 'These women are professionals who did a really good job and got a positive reaction from the people who were there.

'The negativity from people, many of whom weren't at the event, has been really unfortunate.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
