«Breaking News» Nutritionist reveals foods and drinks that will WINTER-PROOF skin

Snow is set to hit the UK this weekend and that means our complexions are about to take a beating, with the impending cold snap heralding dry patches, spots and a lack of radiance.

But, according to an expert, there are some speedy cheats for making skin clearer, plumper and a whole lot more luminous - no expensive face creams required.

'The winter months bring with them cool weather and central heating, both of which deprive your skin of much-needed moisture,' Dr. Naomi Newman-Beinart, a PhD medical nutritionist, tells FEMAIL.

'The constant changes in temperature can wreak havoc on your skin, especially if you already suffer from sensitivity and dryness.

'It can take its toll on oily skin, too, with central heating and winter comfort eating sugar and carbs, increasing the likelihood of spots and oiliness.

'You may have already have switched your moisturiser to something richer and more hydrating, but whatever your skin type, what you eat and drink during the winter season can help support the skin from the inside out.'

Here, Naomi shares her top five tricks for winter-proofing your skin...

BREW YOURSELF BEAUTIFUL

'The most important piece of my own advice I take is to stay well hydrated throughout the day – nothing will benefit your skin and overall complexion more than making a bit of effort in this area,' explains Dr. Newman-Beinart.

But it's not just water than can help kick-start a lack-lustre complexion: 'I do enjoy a mid-morning cup of Earl Grey, but I make sure that on waking and throughout the day I drink plenty of caffeine-free herbal teas, so I can stay warm and fully hydrated.

'Look for natural or organic sugar and caffeine-free teas containing a good blend of herbs and spices, such as Pukka Herbs' Feel New tea.

'I’m well aware that dark and freezing cold mornings tend to make us crave a strong coffee (or three!) to wake us up and boost energy.

'The problem with excessively caffeinated drinks, such as coffee and black tea, is that they act as a strong diuretic, causing dehydration in the body by losing the water, electrolytes and minerals that maintain hydration in our skin.'

Dr. Newman-Beinard advises upping our omega 3 intake during the winter. As well as oily fish, these are also found in seeds - so simple add a tablespoon to porridge (pictured)

UP YOUR OMEGAS

If a lack of luminosity is your biggest winter bugbear, it's time to go big on foods containing omegas: 'Keep your skin glowing by using omega 3-rich, oily foods in your daily diet.

'Omega 3 fatty acids help your skin retain moisture by maintaining and protecting your skin cells. Just add a tablespoon of mixed seeds to your porridge, cereal or smoothie in the morning and add a small handful of nuts to an afternoon snack.

'Don’t forget oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel and sardines. They're great as a quick and healthy dinner with some roasted root veg or steamed greens, and homemade sweet potato chips or mash,' recommends Dr. Newman-Beinart.

Brightly-coloured root vegetables like butternut squash, sweet potatoes and carrots (pictured) contain carotenoids which can, to some degree, help protect skin from harmful UV rays, according to Dr. Newman-Beinard

EAT BRIGHTLY-COLOURED FRUIT AND VEG

Make 'bright and zingy' your mantra when it comes to fruit and vegetables. 'Fresh wholefoods that are naturally rich in skin-supportive anti-oxidants help to protect our skin cells by neutralising free radicals that cause skin to age prematurely.

'We tend to eat less fruit and veg in winter, but there are so many delicious seasonal vegetables that are great to feed your skin from within.

'Brightly-coloured root vegetables, like butternut squash, sweet potato and carrots, contain carotenoids.

'This can, to some degree, help protect skin from harmful UV rays,' explains Dr. Newman-Beinart who recommends concocting a root veg soup for lunch.

For a hit of skin goodness, Dr. Newman-Beinart advises adding orange, red, green or brown lentils to stews, pies or soups (pictured). They work in a similar way to the hormone oestrogen (stock imag)

PACK IN SOME PLANT PROTEIN

'If you want healthy, glowing skin, don’t forget to eat foods rich in good-quality protein. Protein is made up amino acids, which are important building blocks for the cells in our body, including our skin cells.

'Amino acids are also necessary for the development of elastin and collagen - both essential for healthy skin. Oily fish, as mentioned above, are a great source of protein.

'However, lentils are my favourite source of plant-based protein that can be added to nearly every meal. They work in a similar way to the hormone oestrogen and help our skin retain elasticity.'

Dr. Newman-Beinart's wonder foods for upping your intake? 'Add some orange, red, green or brown lentils to your soups, stews and pies and enjoy a colourful meal that does wonders for your skin,' she suggests.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
