«Breaking News» Mom of California college student jailed in Japan pleads for his release

The mother of a California college student who has been been in Japan for nearly nine months for breaking a lamp at a bar, is pleading for his release.

Leah Smith said her son, Julian Adame, was traveling abroad when he was arrested and jailed in Toyko in May 2018.

The University of Redlands student had been bar-hopping with two people he had met at his hostel.

According to a GoFundMe account created by Smith, the college senior fell asleep at one of the bars.

'He woke to a policeman informing him he had broken a lamp and must pay 100,000 yen for it, roughly $900,' the account reads.

Adame's mother said her son had been warned about Japanese gang members disguising themselves as officers to rob tourists.

Fearing the officers were gang members, Adame refused to let them see his passport.

He then 'called 911 thirteen times' as he was being transported to a community police box.

'Once at the hostel, an officer attempted to handcuff Julian. Startled, he resisted arrest. The police charged him with the Obstruction of the Performance of Official Duties, a minor, nonviolent, nondrug offense,' his mother said.

Since Adame's arrest, his mother has hired a translator to help negotiate the cost of the lamp's replacement and figure out how much his fine will be.

According to Smith, her son's lawyer said the lamp will cost around $850, but that price is being negotiated

Adame's most recent hearing was scheduled for December 12, but the trial was postponed until mid-February.

Smith told Fox 40 that the US embassy in Tokyo is forwarding her letters from her son.

One letter says, 'I love you so much' while another reads: 'I'm scared and want to come home.'

Smith said she is still fighting to bring her son home and started the GoFundMe to help raise funds to continue to pay for a translator and eventually her son's flight home.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
