«Breaking News» Indian student dies after falling from Ireland's famous Cliffs of Moher while taking selfie

A student has died after falling from Ireland's famous Cliffs of Moher while taking a selfie.

The man, believed to be an Indian national studying at university in Dublin, was visiting the popular tourist attraction.

The tragedy happened south of the main viewing areas near the visitor centre.

The Gardaí interviewed a number of eye-witnesses at the Cliffs of Moher (pictured) following thetragedy and have confirmed that at this stage, they are treating the incident as a tragic accident

The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard and the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter were mobilised to the incident as soon as the alarm was raised.

Volunteer members from Doolin Coast Guard travelled to the scene by road while one of the units rescue boats was also launched but stood down a short time later.

There were hundreds of visitors enjoying the scenery and cliff walk at the time of the tragedy with many watching the recovery operation from the cliff top.

Rescue 115 arrived at the scene and immediately carried out a search of the area. 

Once the casualty was located, the helicopter winchman was lowered to the water and was able to recover the casualty. 

The body was flown to Doolin where the crew was met by Coast Guard members and Gardaí.

The body was transported the short distance to the Coast Guard station where a doctor was also requested to attend. 

The victim was formally pronounced dead at the station while a hearse arrived at 5.35pm to remove the body to University Hospital Limerick for formal identification and post-mortem examination.

Gardaí interviewed a number of eye-witnesses following tragedy and have confirmed that at this stage, they are treating the incident as a tragic accident.

A Garda spokesman said: “There is nothing to suggest at this stage that this was anything other than a tragic accident. Initial indications are, having taken statements from a number of people, is that the victim was taking a selfie and lost his footing.”

The incident remains under investigation while Gardaí were last night trying to make contact with the victim’s family in India.

In June 2007, a Hungarian man in his 20’s died after he fell to his death at the Cliffs of Moher while taking photographs. It’s understood that the man, who had been visiting friends in Ireland for the summer and was taking photos at the time of the tragedy.

The Cliffs of Moher Coast Walk was officially opened in 2013 and has proven to be a massive attraction in Clare.

Public warnings have been issued several times since the amenity opened. 

Visitors have been warned of the dangers of straying from the official walking trail while in recent years, warnings about unstable edges and rock falls have also been issued.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
