If you mess up in your marriage, a groveling, apologetic chest tattoo probably isn't the best way to repair things with the missus. 

Unfortunately, no one seems to have shared that sage wisdom with Jose L. Torres, a man thought to be from Houston, Texas, who got a lengthy mea culpa inked on his torso just after New Year's.

An image of the tat, in which he owns up to being a 'liar' and a 'cheater,' has gone viral, earning derision, laughter, and face-palms aplenty on social media.

Tattoo artist Tattoos By Jorge first posted the image of the tat on Instagram, where he goes by @sickcat_13.

'Nothing like some nice lettering to start the year,' he wrote.

The photo, which has since spread elsewhere on Instagram, on Reddit, and on Twitter, shows a close-up on a man's shaved torso.

The man was clearly no stranger to tattoos, and already had his own name written over his belly button — but this new one is likely to be much more problematic than his past ink.

In a message written from nipple to nipple and down to his navel, it reads: 'I, Jose L. Torres am getting a tattoo voluntarily on January 2, 2019 so that I can earn my wife's trust back for the pain and suffering I have cause in our marriage.

He then goes on to list that he is a 'liar,' 'cheater,' 'manipulator,' 'deciever,' 'w****/prostitute lover,' and 'dishonest and disrespectul.'

Many people were quick to point out the many inaccurate spellings included in the lengthy tattoo, with one person questioning: 'Didn't you double check and treble check the spelling??'

For that, the tattoo artist clarified that he didn't know about the misspellings and as presumably just copying exactly what the client had written.

Whoops! Several pointed out that it will be especially hard for him when they divorce and he has to take his shirt off around other women

Big mistake! Others simply scoffed at the tattoo with jokes like, 'No way, Jose'

Rainy day fund: Many advised that he start saving to get it lasered off — or to have a new one cover it up

'I did tried to tell the client if was really sure about his decition i ask him several times [sic],' the artist wrote. 

'But the only response i got from him was that he was sure because he mess up and he want it to prove he would change. Even before i started tattooing i ask him again. 

'And about the spelling english is my second lenguage i have a really hard time with spelling thats why always ask the costumers to make sure of the spelling [sic].'

But, perhaps unsurprisingly, the numerous spelling errors ('disrespectul' and 'deciever') and grammatical errors were the least of the problems that internet users had with the tat. 

Many pointed out that this was a terrible way to win a woman back — and would be incredibly awkward for him once he became single again.

'Better start saving for those laser removal sessions AND that divorce because they just guaranteed both,' wrote one Twitter user.

'Your second wife will love this one,' tweeted another.

'Imagine what the next woman he’s gonna cheat with is gonna say when they see this,' said a third.

Another person commenting on Instagram chose to mock the man's choice of font, writing: 'The fact she made him get it in Comic Sans is the harsh part.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
