«Breaking News» Golden Globes fans slam results as they declare Lady Gaga 'was robbed'

Fans have flooded Twitter to slam the Hollywood Foreign Press for their 'baffling' Golden Globes awards on Sunday night.

Critics and film-goers alike furiously tweeted about Bohemian Rhapsody's shock win for Best Motion Picture Drama over the hotly tipped A Star Is Born - which only managed to win one of its categories.

Despite lukewarm reviews when it was released last year, the Queen biopic fought off competition from A Star Is Born, Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, and If Beale Street Could Talk to win the coveted prize after becoming the highest grossing music biopic of all time.

A Star is Born was expected to win in the major categories, but instead just picked up a single trophy, for Best Original Song on Sunday night.

Bradley Cooper was also beat out by Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek in the Best Actor - Drama category while Lady Gaga Gaga lost to The Wife's Glenn Close in the Best Actress - Drama category.

No doubt many were surprised by the win as Bohemian Rhapsody was generally poorly reviewed with 62% on Tomatometer by Rotten Tomatoes with top critics giving it 48%.

A Star Is Born received 90% on the Tomatometer with 96% of top critics giving it their seal of approval by the same metric.

Fans questioned if the HFP had even watched A Star Is Born, with one tweeter using an image of a blindfolded Sandra Bullock from hit Netflix drama Birdbox as they quipped: 'the hollywood foreign press watching A Star is Born.'

'I feel personally hurt from how much A Star is Born got robbed tonight,' agreed another.

Others hit out at Bohemian Rhapsody and its portrayal of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, with one tweeting writing: 'Bohemian Rhapsody is exactly the kind of LGBTQ representation we don't need winning mainstream recognition.'

Some fans were upset that A Star is Born lead Lady Gaga lost out to Glenn Close in the Best Actress category, with one fan tweeting: 'Hello I redownloaded twitter just to say that Lady gaga was robbed and should've won best actress! Okay bye!'

Among the criticism, many fans pointed out the HFP had awarded controversial filmmaker Bryan Singer by giving the top gong to Bohemian Rhapsody.

Singer was fired from the Queen biopic two weeks before the wrap date amid unexplained absences and reported tension between him and the cast.

Due to DGA rules, Singer was still credited as the film's director, despite being replaced by Dexter Fletcher.

The director has also been repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct, with one tweeter pointing out: 'Seriously Bohemian Rhapsody. The Bryan Singer one?.... What happened to Times Up?'

Singer, who was a no show at the ceremony and wasn't mentioned in the acceptance speeches from Malek and producer Graham King, responded to the wins on Sunday night.

'What an honor. Thank you #HollywoodForeignPress,' posted the filmmaker on Instagram alongside a picture of Malek filming the I Want to Break Free scene.

Meanwhile Queen's Brian May responded to the critics' response to the movie backstage at the Globes, musing that the controversy surrounding the first trailer for the biopic was responsible for its soft reviews.

'The mistake that critics made was reviewing the trailer instead of reviewing the film. They jumped to conclusions. Once people stake their claim, it's hard for them to withdraw,' he claimed to Deadline.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
