Jacob Rees-Mogg has admitted Theresa May's Brexit deal is better than Remaining in the EU in a hint Brexiteer rebels could split.
The chairman of the rebel European Research Group said staying inside the EU would be the worst possible outcome of the current impasse.
Other Brexiteers, including Boris Johnson, say the Prime Minister's deal is so bad even losing the Brexit mission altogether is a better option for Britain.
The divide emerged as it was claimed a permanent UK-EU customs union could bring the DUP back into the fold because it would avoid a border in the Irish Sea.
DUP leader Arlene Foster resisted the reports today - but did not deny the backstop was the party's main objection and has herself touted a customs union as a solution in the past.
The prospect of DUP support was the only glimmer of hope for the Prime Minister following yesterday's talks.
She was branded a 'sphinx' who 'reading off a script' as she scrambled to find a Brexit Plan B.
The Prime Minister's desperate efforts to find a way through the impasse will continue today and through the weekend following Tuesday's devastating defeat.
She must produce a statement on what to do next in Parliament on Monday ahead of a crucial new round of Commons votes on January 29.

In a split from Tory rebels, the DUP (led by Arlene Foster and Nigel Dodds, pictured in Downing Street yesterday) revealed it could back a softer Brexit if it resolved the threat to the Union they believe is posed by the current Brexit deal

Mr Rees-Mogg said: 'If I was asked to rank the options in order of preference, then No Deal would be better than Mrs May's deal and Mrs May's deal would be better than not leaving at all.
'I don't agree with those who say the deal is so bad it would be worse than staying in.'
His stance opens up the possibility that like-minded Eurosceptics might be persuaded to eventually back a version of Mrs May's withdrawal deal if Remainers in Parliament find a way of blocking a no-deal Brexit.
However, Mr Rees-Mogg said the chances of former Tory ministers such as Nick Boles and Dominic Grieve succeeding in their bid to block No Deal were 'very, very remote'.
Since the devastating loss on Tuesday night, Mrs May has met all opposition leaders except Jeremy Corbyn.
No 10 said last night 'the Prime Minister will continue to engage with Parliamentarians in the coming days' - but had to admit today there were no more meetings planned.
Reports from the first round of talks in No 10 yesterday made bleak reading for Mrs May.
One Conservative MP who attended a meeting with the prime minister told the FT: 'As ever with Theresa, you never know whether she's listening or whether it's going in one ear and out the other.'
Green MP Caroline Lucas said Mrs May offered no concessions.
She said: 'She's boxed in by her red lines, I don't understand how a new outcome can come out of this process.
'At the end I asked if she was prepared to make some changes and answer came there none.'

Senior Labour MPs Hilary Benn and Yvette Cooper (pictured outside the Cabinet Office yesterday) also joined talks but were dismayed at what Mrs May had to say
A senior opposition MP told the Sun: 'She was reading to us off a script – it was pathetic'.
One DUP MP told The Times: 'Our priority is to try and get the current withdrawal agreement altered but we recognise given the scale of the defeat this week that reviving it will be a challenge.
'If that cannot be done, we are going to have to look at other options and that could include a softer Brexit as long as it applied to the whole of the United Kingdom.
'We are open to discussions to try and find a way forward as long as it respects Northern Ireland as an integral part of the UK.'
Another senior DUP source said: 'If we are looking at a solution that encompasses the whole of the UK that would tick the unionist box.'
DUP Westminster Leader Nigel Dodds hinted at the position on Peston on Wednesday.
He said: 'It certainly deals with the issue of the United Kingdom being treated the same.
'But does it deliver on control of our borders, our laws and our money? That's the issue that the Conservative Party would have to face up to.'

Other Brexiteers,...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
