«Breaking News» Critics pan new big budget Marvel movie Venom

Marvel's latest big budget blockbuster Venom has been universally panned ahead of its opening weekend - but fans blame supporters of rivals DC Comics and Lady Gaga's new movie A Star is Born for leaving fake reviews.

The movie looked all set to be a hit; with an A-lister lead in Tom Hardy, a huge special effects budget, and a superhero plot based around a Spiderman villain.

But, while it is still expected to make around $65 million when it opens this weekend, fans and critics have expressed their disappointment in the film which they have described as cheesy, dated and a 'complete failure.'

Some have even been as cruel as to compare it to the infamously terrible 2004 movie Catwoman.

'Venom is Catwoman level bad, with Tom Hardy's worst performance since This Means War,' Daniel R tweeted.

Many felt that compared to the hugely popular Marvel Avengers movies of recent years, Venom felt like a step backwards.

'Sorry to say that #Venom is pretty much a complete failure,' added Tom Horrorgensen, 'a tonal mess that feels 15 years old, ignoring the storytelling strides that the superhero genre has made in recent years.'

'This is a movie that somehow slipped through a wormhole from 2004,' another Twitter user wrote. 'That's my biggest take. It's a movie that spilled from the pre-Marvel Cinematic Universe  era through a crack in time and space.'

However, Venom fans aren't taking the criticism lying down and have even accused Lady Gaga fans of trolling Venom to support the singer's new movie A Star Is Born, which also opens this weekend.

Fans have noticed that many of the negative tweets about Venom appear to be eerily similar.

This exact tweet, word for word, has been posted by dozens of separate accounts in the past few days; 'I am the biggest marvel fan but I just watched #Venom and I don't know what to say.

'Easily the worst movie this year. I expected so much better and now I'm just disappointed.'

One Twitter user shared a photo of the multiple posts of the same tweet, writing: 'Okay, something is up. The negativity around the #Venom movie is looking very artificial.'

'Sooooo there are BOTS attacking the #Venom movie. LMAO,' another user wrote.

When reached by BuzzFeed, one of the accounts who shared the fake negative review claimed: 'It's us Gaga fans creating fake IDs to trash the 'Venom' premiere. They both are getting released on the same day, so we want more audience for 'A Star Is Born.'

However, Gaga fans, who refer to themselves as Little Monsters, insist they are innocent and claim it is in fact DC fans - the long time rivals of Marvel - who are behind the negative reviews and are trying to point the finger at them.

'Those are DC fans. They're trying to pin in it on us Lady Gaga fans. They're the one who started it. I know a big DC fan account who's making these troll accounts,' a Twitter user wrote.

Whoever is behind the fake reviews, it does not seem to have dented enthusiasm for Venom which is set to have an opening weekend of $65 million.

Meanwhile, A Star Is Born is aiming for a more humble opening in the mid-$20 millions - which would still be considered a success for the much smaller budgeted movie.

But both are very different films, targeting different audiences, with A Star is Born even creating a little early Oscars buzz, while big budget Venom hopes to entertain.

Warner Bros. and Sony, the studios behind 'A Star Is Born' and 'Venom,' respectively, have not commented on the reviews.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
