«Breaking News» Bloomberg increases speculation he will run for president by giving $20 million to Dems

Michael Bloomberg is giving an additional $20 million to Democrats this election cycle, bringing his total investment in the midterm election to $100 million as speculation increases he will challenge President Donald Trump in 2020.

Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York City, will give $20 million Senate Democrats this week in a bid to boost the party's chances of retaking control of that chamber.

His moves comes as the Senate grapples with a decision on whether or not to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court.

And his major investment in the party this year could result in a lot of goodwill and IOUs from Democratic lawmakers in 2020 should Bloomberg decide to make another presidential bid.

But, in the short term, his money will provide a significant boost to the party's chances of winning the Senate in November amid GOP worries they will lose control on Capitol Hill.

Bloomberg is giving the funds to the Senate Majority PAC,  The Washington Post reported, a super PAC that had $29 million on hand at the end of August and has been supporting candidates in expensive media markets.

It is also closely tied to Bloomberg's good friend: Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.

Bloomberg, who was a political independent as mayor, said the debate over Kavanaugh has energized Democratic voters and provides a means for the party to  rallying women and swing voters.

His advisers told the newspaper that Bloomberg sees last week's contentious Kavanaugh hearings as a tipping point.

'Mike was extraordinarily disappointed in the Republican leadership in the Senate and feels increasingly passionate about changing it,' Bloomberg adviser Kevin Sheekey told The Post. 'And he's already enthusiastic about the impact he's having on House races and increasingly confident that he can contribute to a Democratic takeover.'

Team Trump is watching Bloomberg for clues

'If I were a Democrat strategist . . . and somebody said to me, 'Who do you want to be the Democrat nominee for president of the United States?,' there's only one name I would choose . . . and his name is Michael Bloomberg,' former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast in August, the Post noted.

'Mike Bloomberg created tens of thousands of jobs over the course of his lifetime. That is a story the American people like, and he's an outsider. I think it would be a very competitive race,' Lewandowski noted.

Bloomberg said in late September he'd make a decision on a White House bid after the midterm election, adding he's finds the attention heady.

'Right now I'm only focused on the midterms,' Bloomberg told CNN's 'Fareed Zakaria GPS.' 'I believe that the Republicans have not done what they should have done in terms of providing some counterbalance to the executive branch.'

He added: 'Afterwards, you take a look at it.'

Bloomberg said he was flattered by calls for him to take on his fellow New York billionaire.

'It is a very heady thing when people yell 'run, run, run,'' he said.

'We'd see whether or not it's possible and how I feel, but that's down the road,' he noted. 'You've got to take these things one at a time. Everybody's focused now on the midterms - at least they think they are, and they should be. And then afterward, we'll - there's lots of possibilities.'

This year, the billionaire is investing some of his massive cash to help Democrats in their quest to retake control of Congress.

In addition to the $20 million announced on Wednesday, he's committed to spending at least $80 million to help Democrats win Congressional races this year.

Bloomberg, who toyed in the past with launching a White House campaign as an Independent, told The New York Times earlier this month if he runs in 2020, it will be as a Democrat.

He will be 76 in 2020, making him the oldest and richest person to seek the Oval Office.

This also marks the fourth time Bloomberg has mulled throwing his hat into the presidential ring - an option he considered in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Bloomberg considered running as an Independent last cycle but ultimately opted not to run two years ago amid fears he could not win on a third-party line.

But he campaigned against Trump, who smacked him down as a 'little guy.'

Should Bloomberg opt to run, he could face a primary challenge from former Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, both of whom said they would look at possible presidential campaigns after this November.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
