«Breaking Pic News» Tyler Perry offers Geoffrey Owens a job after Trader Joe's pictures

It looks like Geoffrey Owens might be getting his next Hollywood gig.

Director Tyler Perry offered the former Cosby Show star a job on his show for Oprah Winfrey's cable network OWN after Owens appeared on Good Morning America.

Owens proudly wore his Trader Joe's name tag on Tuesday morning as he spoke of being 'shamed' for working at the supermarket chain last week.

He revealed he has since quit due to the unwanted attention, but Perry has now asked the star to 'come join us!' on his hit drama.

'#GeoffreyOwens I'm about to start shootings OWN's number one drama next week! Come join us!' Perry wrote on Twitter Tuesday morning.

'I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.'

Perry is the creator and director of OWN's show The Haves and the Haves Nots, which is based on his own 2011 play.

The soap opera, which premiered in 2013, follows two powerful rich families and one poor family as their lives intertwine in Savannah, Georgia.

Perry's offer came soon after Owens spoke out for the first time since pictures were released of him bagging groceries at Trader Joe's last week.

Owens revealed on Tuesday that the pictures have piqued interest in his acting talents again.

But he seemed to indicate he would turn offers like Perry's down, noting he would not feel comfortable accepting an acting gig because of the recent attention.

'This might sound weird but I wouldn't feel comfortable getting acting jobs from this event,' he said.

'I wouldn't mind getting auditions. But I wouldn't feel comfortable, someone giving me a job, because this happened. I want to get a job because I am the right person for the job.'

Owens said he never intended to advertise his work at the store and was stunned when the photographs first emerged.

The 57-year-old revealed he had been working at store in New Jersey for 15 months 'out of necessity' between short-term acting gigs and teaching.

'When I first saw the pictures...I was really devastated,' Owens said, explaining that he has not had an on-screen job which lasted more than 10 weeks in the 26 years since The Cosby Show wrapped in 1992.

'I got to a point where I'd been teaching acting and directing for 30 plus years but it just didn't add up enough. You've got to do what you've got to do.'

'I wanted a job that I could I have some flexibility and try to stay in the acting business.'

'I didn't advertise it, not because I was ashamed of it, but because I didn't want the acting community to think that I wasn't pursuing acting anymore,' he said.

When photographs of him in the store swept social media last week, Owens said he was baffled by the sudden interest.

'It was really overwhelming. It came out of nowhere.  I feel like I'm more of a celebrity now than I ever have been. I'm more of a celebrity now than when I actually was a celebrity!' he joked.

Owens said he hoped his story sparked a shift in attitudes about work and getting by.

'This business of me being the Cosby guy who got shamed for working at Trader Joe's, that's going to pass,' he said.

'I hope what doesn't pass is this idea that people are now thinking about - what it means to work.'

'The honor of the working person and the dignity of work. [There's a] reevaluation [of the idea] that some jobs are better than others. It's not true.'

'There is no job that's better than another.  It may pay better, it may have better benefits, it may look better on paper. But it's not better. Every job is worthwhile.'

Owens went on to say that he didn't want anyone's pity.

'No one should feel sorry for me,' he said.

'I've had a great life, a great career. I've had a career most actors would die for.  I am doing fine,' he proudly added.

At the end of his interview, Owens won enthusiastic applause from host Robin Roberts.

She is one of the many people who have lauded his work ethic since the photographs emerged.

Others include actor Terry Crews who tweeted in support of Owens: 'I swept floors after the NFL. If need be, I'd do it again.

'Good honest work is nothing to be ashamed of.'

'I don't know #GeoffreyOwens but I know this - almost every successful actor, singer, athlete, or celebrity is one lucky (unlucky) break away from bagging groceries themselves,' tweeted New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg.

'Few would admit it. Fewer humble enough to do it,' he added.

'In between One Tree Hill and Cougar Town I went back to work as a cocktail waitress,' added television writer Audrey Wauchope‏.

A number of artists have since shared the side gigs they have taken between jobs under the hashtag #ActorsWithDayJobs.

Owens played Elvin Tibideaux, the husband of Sondra Huxtable, on the final five seasons of NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, between 1985 and 1992.

He went on to appear in shows including It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and That's So Raven.More recent roles include parts in Lucifer and The Affair.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
