The founder of a cat sanctuary on an idyllic Greek island who launched a search for her replacement on Facebook has been inundated with messages from over 35,000 applicants in more than 80 countries.
Joan Bowell, 51, who lives on the island of Syros with her husband Richard, 65, began advertising for someone to take over the role of caring for their 55 cats last month in a Facebook post that quickly went viral.
The response to the job - which comes with a paid-for residence, a private garden and a part-time salary of around £450 a month - was so overwhelming Joan said she had been forced to withdraw the advert while she and Richard, who are moving to the US, attempt to whittle down the candidates.
Of the thousands of comments left in response to Joan's Facebook post, one woman described the role as her 'life's dream', while others detailed their credentials as dedicated cat lovers at length.

Joan had explained on the Facebook page for the sanctuary God's Little People Cat Rescue, that she was hoping to employ a mature individual 'who's responsible, reliable, honest, practically inclined' and able to feed the cats as well as take them to the vets if needed.
Joan has said she is now in the process of shortlisting three to four candidates before deciding who to recruit.
More than 29,000 Facebook users have commented on the job post in the hopes of bringing attention to their applications.
One retired applicant urged to be considered for the role as they have been around cats since childhood and have experience in looking after 73 cats.
Speaking under the name 'Morag De Ath' she said: 'Hi I am a retired nurse aged 53. I have 2 cats of my own and live at home with my son, who is in university doing his degree.
'I would love to be considered for this position, my love for cats goes back to my early childhood, we bred siamese cats, whilst living in Rhodesia, having had 73 cats and kittens to take care of, to nurture and love, I cannot see myself ever being without a feline friend to love and care for.
'They bring such joy, and happiness, their tiny paws gently kneading away, and the beautiful purr are oh so comforting...'
Another person wrote: 'Hello!! I have sent you an email and would consider myself at the top of the list for taking care of those glorious feline souls! This is my life's dream and having just finished my chemotherapy treatment, I'm need a place where I could heal and recover
'What a better place to do so that among feline friends in Greece!! And starting the job on the anniversary of my first chemo therapy treatment would mean so much to me!'

Joan began her search (pictured) for someone to replace she and her husband in August. She hopes to pay just under £500pcm for the part-time live-in role
Others attempted to support their application by sharing images of their own cats while also trying to persuade a decision for their pets to come along.
One person said: 'Awwww this is a dream!! I feed cat colonies around my area, help trap them to get them fix and have 3 rescues of my own at home. I wonder if this job would allow more cats... because although this looks amazing I would never leave my babies behind!
'Here is a picture of my very first rescue (found inside a cardboard box on an isolated road) 4 found forever homes right away and two couldn't find homes so they stayed with me!!'
Another wrote: 'That would be heaven, oh and how old am I? 45!!! Perfect! A few more cats than the ones I looked after when in Mykonos but I've had good training'
Joan and Richard are moving to America to help cats in the greater New York area.
They have received $2,153 (£1,665) in donations towards their goal of raising $200,000 (£154,637) on their Go Fund Me page.
Speaking on the page the couple wrote: 'We want to rededicate ourselves to the cause in a bigger way to show the world that have shown us, that cats count and that the way we treat them reflects something of our own humanity!'
They claim the money will be used towards legal fees, the cost of two years running the rescue shelter and moving 20 of the cats from Greece.
According to The Observer the couple previously used a combination of donations and money raised by selling Joan's illustrations to fund their Greek sanctuary.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
