«Breaking News» 'We're so hard on ourselves': Actress Susie Porter, 47, shares advice to her younger self

With over two decades in showbusiness, Susie Porter has plenty of stories to tell about acting and life in the spotlight.

And the 47-year-old said on Monday that if she had the chance to give advice to her younger self, it would be to focus on positivity.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the Ladies in Black premiere in Sydney, she said: 'I would say not to compare myself to others.'

The Puberty Blues star, who began her acting career in her twenties, added: 'And be kind to yourself. We're so hard on ourselves about our careers or who we are, what we look like.

'Be kind to yourself and to thine own self, be true.'

For her latest project, Susie stars in the highly anticipated '50s-inspired film Ladies in Black.

Speaking about her role as the well-educated Mrs. Miles, Susie said: 'The cast is pretty amazing... I couldn't say no to this role!

'I think what is great in this movie is, obviously, for a girl to go to university [at the time] was quite unusual. Women came before that didn't have those opportunities. Some people may not have even wanted those opportunities.

'But I know, for me, I'm very happy that because of the women who came before me, I can choose whatever life I want.'

It comes after Susie revealed the highlight of her career so far was her role in prison drama, Wentworth, in which she portrays feared criminal matriarch Marie Winter.

'What I love about this character is that I get to do what male actors have got to do for years... I get to do male things, like hold a knife on screen,' she told The Daily Telegraph in April.

'It's the most exciting time I've ever felt to be a female in the industry,' Susie added, noting that more older women are being represented on screen in recent years.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
