President Donald Trump is using the strong performance of the American economy as a weapon against Democrats, claiming growth would not be so high if they had won the 2016 election.
Most Republicans believe the tax cut package passed last year and the surging U.S. economic numbers will help them at the ballot box this coming November in the midterm elections.
Trump touted the 4.2 percent GDP rate - its best performance in nearly four years -and the 3.9 percent unemployment rate - one of the lowest levels in half a century - as proof his administration is working and used the numbers to knock Democrats.

He also used the numbers to counter reports of chaos on his administration
'If the Democrats had won the Election in 2016, GDP, which was about 1% and going down, would have been minus 4% instead of up 4.2%. I opened up our beautiful economic engine with Regulation and Tax Cuts. Our system was choking and would have been made worse. Still plenty to do,' he wrote on Twitter Monday morning.
He also used the numbers to counter reports of chaos on his administration - the result of excerpts released from Bob Woodward's forthcoming book 'Fear' and from an anonymous New York Times op-ed that spoke of a 'resistance' movement against his presidency.
'The White House is a 'smooth running machine,'' he tweeted. 'We are making some of the biggest and most important deals in our country's history - with many more to come! The Dems are going crazy!'
But Democrats are not idling by on the economic claims.
Trump's tweets come after former President Barack Obama launched a scathing attack on his successor's presidency on Friday, including a hit at the president's claiming the credit for the strong economy.
Obama pointed out the economy was on the upswing when he left office.
'By the time I left office, household income was near its all-time high, and the uninsured rate hit an all-time low, poverty rates were falling. I mention this just so when you hear how great the economy is doing right now, let's just remember when this recovery started,' he said.
'I'm glad it's continued, but when you hear about this economic miracle that's been going on, when the job numbers come out, monthly job numbers and suddenly Republicans are saying it's a miracle, I have to kind of remind them, actually, those job numbers are the same as they were in 2015 and 2016,' he added.
The results-orientated Trump often touts strong economic numbers as proof his presidency is delivering on its promises.
In the 19 months since Trump took office, the economy has created 3.58 million new jobs but the economy created 3.96 million created in the last 19 months of Obama’s presidency, the New York Times reported.
And the last time the GDP reached 4.2 percent was in 2014 — when Obama was in office.
But under Trump, unemployment is now at record low of 3.9 percent and the stock markets have reached record highs.
The president hit back at his predecessor's attack, saying in a speech on Friday that Obama has been 'trying to take credit for this incredible thing that's happening to our country.'

The Commerce Department revised second quarter economic numbers at the end of August to show that the gross domestic product - the value of all goods and services produced across the economy - was even stronger than originally indicated.
But economists told Bloomberg News the expansion pace is expected to cool from the second quarter as the tax-cut boost, which kicked in in January, fades.
There's also a threat of a trade war with China and concerns the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates further.
The economists projected to Bloomberg a 2.9 percent economic expansion for the full year.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
