«Breaking News» Sol Campbell rubbishes England's World Cup heroics

Former England defender Sol Campbell has dismissed talk of a revival under Gareth Southgate, saying the country simply got lucky at the World Cup and are still well behind Europe's elite.

The former Spurs and Arsenal defender, who had an 11-year international career with England, says trying to qualify for Euro 2020 will be far harder challenge for Southgate's men.

'We have to be honest, although they did incredibly well to reach the semi-finals in Russia the draw was also incredibly kind to them,' said Campbell. 'They didn't really meet a top team until Croatia. Hopefully, moving forward, they will have learned a lot from the Croatia game in terms of not switching off. But when you look at what France or Belgium had to do, would England have survived the same tests?

'For me now, it's all about a reality check and how they push on. We have the Nations League then the Euros. Sometimes in the Euros you meet harder teams and let's face it, the likes of Italy and Holland will have a point to prove.'

Campbell, adored at Arsenal but despised by Spurs fans when he moved across north London, has been watching the progress of both clubs.

The former defender believes Spurs may have slipped up not buying anyone in the summer but that Arsenal will progress under new coach Umai Emery despite early defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea.

He said: 'Manchester City are streets ahead but Arsenal could well have beaten Chelsea and might even have been 5-2 up at half-time.

'I see really good signs because they are learning from mistakes during games and not waiting till afterwards. Halfway through the season you will see where Arsenal are.'

Campbell, 43, retired six years ago after two decades in the game and bemoans the fact that strong-tackling centre halves are a dying breed.

'Sometimes, you've got defenders who simply don't want to defend,' said Campbell. 'Football has changed. Hard tackling seems to have gone out of the game.

'I don't know why that kind of training isn't around any more. To find the kind of really good defender like those we had in my day, that's gold dust.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
