«Breaking News» SNL's Colin Jost and Michael Che get VERY mixed reviews for their Emmy hosting

Colin Jost and Michael Che have been criticized for their 'awkward' and 'flat' Emmys hosting.

The Saturday Night Live veterans gave one of the most political Emmy Award monologues ever, with jokes about diversity, MeToo and Roseanne Bar's cancelled show.

Yet much of the pair's material failed to land.

Some of the gags were met with a stony silence from the crowd. While viewers on Twitter were much more vocal with their disapproval, branding the hosts 'awkward', 'boring' and 'unfunny'.

One celebrity who seemed to sum up the feelings about the SNL stars, who host Weekend Update together, was the ever-memable Chrissy Teigan who appeared to visibly cringe during a joke about Roseanne's show being cancelled over her racist tweet.

Jost joked that Roseanne was 'cancelled by herself but picked up by white nationalists.'

'She's had a rough year,' Che added. 'I heard Roseanne is moving to Israel.'

'I mean damn, how messed up is your life you have to go to the Middle East to get peace of mind?'

The hosts then mentioned Laurie Metcalfe, who received a supporting actress nomination for her work on Roseanne, to a round of applause from the audience.

'You know how great you have to be to get nominated for Roseanne now?' Che asked the crowd.

'That's like nominating a cop for a BET award, it doesn't happen - that would be weird.'

The camera then panned to John Legend, who hosted the BET awards earlier this year, and his wife and model Teigen who pulled an awkward face and attempted to scoot down in her seat, out of shot.

Another remark that stirred up controversy at the 70th Annual Emmy Awards show, was when Che explained that his mother would not be watching.

'My mother is not watching,' Che said. 'She says she doesn't like watching white award shows because you guys don't thank Jesus enough.'

'That's true,' he continued. 'The only white people that thank Jesus are Republicans and ex-crackheads.'

'Okay @DaytimeEmmys #MichaelChe I am not a Republican neither an ex- crack head do I get to thank #Jesus according to your standards? I'm a believer any and WILL thank JESUS! Really bad writing,' one viewer tweeted.

'Michael Che - do not knock JC - Jesus is just all right with me.'

'More Colin Just and Michael Che's opening monologue bombed harder than I ever could have dreamed,' another tweeted.

Another joke that divided opinion was Che's comparison of The Handsmaid's Tale which 'is like the white women's version of 'Roots'.

'Roots with bonnets,' which some tweeting that it was the 'joke of the night' while another tweeted: 'Thought these guys were going to be bad but this is beyond bad.'

But some of the heaviest criticism wasn't at the more controversial jokes, but the overall tone which many slammed as dull and awkward.

Dylan Hesse tweeted: 'At first I thought 'okay that opening number was decent, this may be good' and then that opening monologue by che & Jost was flat and the show has been an awkward, boring mess since #Emmys.'

Kimberly Nicole Foster simply wrote: 'I severely dislike both Colin Jost and Michael Che.'

While Hannah Giorgis wrote: 'If i took a shot every time someone described individuals as 'diverse' maybe i would be drunk enough to laugh at michael che and colin jost.'

'Good lord the #emmys are a weird mix of awkward af and boring this year. Yikes.' another added.

'Colin Jost and Michael Che prove they can start a show on a bad note and somehow make it much worse. #Emmys,' another tweet read.

Not everyone agreed that the pair shouldn't host again.

One Twitter user wrote: 'Che bests Josts ever. #MichaelChe #ColinJost #EmmyAwards2018 #bestjostsever.'

Yet much of ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
