Whether it was your favourite hairspray or a brand new foundation that just tipped over the liquid allowance, we have all been the person holding up the security line at the airport after we've mistakenly packed something in our carry-on bag.
And so, it's never been more important to know what you can and can't bring.
Skyscanner Australia recently lifted the lid on carry-on bags and the current rules and regulations in Australia.
Here, FEMAIL reveals some of their take-home tips.
Skyscanner Australia recently lifted the lid on carry-on bags and the current rules and regulations in Australia - you can bring baby food (stock image), but not some sporting items
You can also not bring thermometers or barometers with mercury, unless you are a representative of an official agency like a government weather bureau (stock image)
What can't you bring?
While many people might be aware that you can't bring things like aerosols, liquid and gels over 100ml, not so many people know about the specifics surrounding such items.
'Even if a large container is only partially filled with 100ml or less of liquid, it will be refused,' Skyscanner reported.
If you want to carry liquids, you need to put them inside a clear, resealable plastic bag, no more than 80 centimetres in total.
Apart from liquids, items like razors, scissors and anything flammable like spray paint are prohibited.
You should also refrain from packing sporting equipment like crampons, ice skates, cricket bats, hockey sticks and golf clubs in your hand luggage.
'As well as sharp items that could be used as weapons, any items that could feasibly be used in an attack are not allowed on board,' Skyscanner said in a post.

What can you bring?
While 100ml is the general rule of thumb, there are some exceptions to the rule.
These include medicines, baby products and special dietary products. Items such as breast milk, baby wipes and baby food can all be taken on board.
You can also take medical products in larger quantities, provided you have the doctor's note to verify the prescription.
'Non-prescription items like contact lens solution, celiac foods and fish oil tablets may also be included in your carry on luggage,' Skyscanner said.

More surprising items you are allowed on board include fish oil within 100ml, makeup items like pressed powder, powder eye shadow, eyeliner and compacts.
However, this is not quite a one-size-fits-all approach, as in June it was reported that international travellers carrying inorganic powders such as talcum powder, certain foot powders, salt and sand would not be allowed on board an aircraft if they are in containers with a volume that exceeds 350 millilitres.
You can also bring some types of scissors, such as those with a blunt or round end that have blades less than six centimetres long.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
