«Breaking News» Rose Byrne wears a striped suit as she helps out at Charity Day in NYC

Rose Byrne took to the phone banks on Tuesday in New York to raise money for vulnerable children.

The 39-year-old actress represented a charity for foster kids at a fund-raising event held every 9/11 by a New York financial institution which lost 658 people in the terrorist attack 17 years ago.

There were tears as the star of Damages and X-Men:Apocalypse explained why she had become an ambassador for Happy Trails for Kids, which raises money to aid the nation's 400,000 children in foster care.

Rose said that Cantor Fitzgerald's Charity Day had become an important way to transform the horror of 9/11 into something 'meaningful and positive' for vulnerable children.

She joined a phone bank at Cantor Fitzgerald's Seaport Plaza headquarters on Tuesday afternoon, reaching out to clients to win pledges for the Los Angeles-based charity.

Rose worked the phones alongside Edie Lutnick, 58, the sister of Cantor Fitzgerald chief executive Howard Lutnick.

Byrne said she hoped that her contribution would be 'uplifting,'  as was her wardrobe - a stylish stripey suit with pink heels.

The Australian-born mother of two has been a steady patron of many good causes including UNICEF Australia.

But working over the past year on Instant Family, a forthcoming comedy with Mark Wahlberg about challenges of adoption, may have deepened her understanding of the issues facing "lost' children seeking a home.

Since 1993 Happy Trials for Kids has helped generations of foster kids discover the great outdoors and mentoring them through educational and family issues.

Other stars who dropped by Seaport Plaza on Tuesday included Lucy Hale, the 29- year-old singer and star of Pretty Little Liars who looked businesslike in an MSGM suit and Nicholas Kirkwood heels.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
