«Breaking News» Nike sales increase 31% after Colin Kaepernick ad

Nike's online sales have increased 31 per cent in the wake of its controversial 'Just Do It' advertising campaign featuring NFL star Colin Kaepernick.

The sportswear company's sales surged 31 per cent compared to last year over the Labor Day weekend, according to digital commerce research company Edison Trends.

Sales in particular increased on Monday and Tuesday after Nike debuted its new 30th anniversary campaign and aired a new ad featuring the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

Nike faced backlash over its Kaepernick endorsement deal. The NFL star sparked controversy when he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality.

'There was speculation that Nike's Colin Kaepernick ad campaign could lead to a drop in sales... At this point, does not seem to support that theory,' Edison Trends said.

'In fact, Nike sales grew 31 per cent from Sunday through Tuesday over Labor Day this year, besting 2017's comparative 17 per cent increase.'

Trump, who has repeatedly criticized Kaepernick and other NFL players for the kneeling protests, slammed Nike on Friday, tweeting: 'What was Nike thinking?'

At a rally in Montana last week, Trump said he didn't think Nike's endorsement deal with Kaepernick was appropriate.

'I don't like what Nike did. I don't think it's appropriate what they did,' Trump said.

'I honor the flag. I honor our national anthem and most of the people in this country feel the same way.'

Trump's comments came just as the NFL opened its new season.

The season-opening clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons saw a sharp dip in ratings as Trump renewed criticism of the league.

While the delayed start to Thursday's game is likely to have influenced the figure, the sharp dip comes as the NFL struggles to quell controversy over the issues of player protests.

Political analysts have predicted that Trump will seek to keep the anthem issue alive as he attempts to energize his base ahead of crucial mid-term elections in November.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
