The New York Democratic Committee is under intense fire after it sent out a mailer implying that Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor of New York, is anti-Semitic.
The campaign literature was sent out just a few days before Thursday's primaries and on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
According to the New York Post, the mailer read: 'With anti-Semitism and bigotry on the rise, we can't take a chance with inexperienced Cynthia Nixon, who won't stand strong for our Jewish communities.
The mailer went on to say that Nixon is 'against funding yeshivas' supports the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel and is 'silent on the rise of anti-Semitism'.

The literature caused a major uproar and Nixon fired back accusing governor Andrew Cuomo of approving it.
'The mailers that Governor Cuomo and the NY State Democratic Party have sent out are not only an attack on my family, but on all New Yorkers,' Nixon tweeted Sunday.
'At a time when anti-Semitic, Islamophobic, and other hate crimes are on the rise, it's sickening to exploit people's real fears like this.'
Lis Smith, a Cuomo campaign spokeswoman, tweeted that the governor was not involved in the mailer.
'Governor Cuomo didn't approve of or have any knowledge of the mailer in question,' she posted on Twitter. 'He disagrees with the language in it, believes it is inappropriate, and urges voters to focus on the real issues in this race.'
The New York State Democratic committee executive Geoff Berman also took to Twitter on Sunday calling the mailer a 'mistake'.
'Let me be clear: This mailer was a mistake and is inappropriate and is not the tone the Democratic Party should set - it will not happen again,' he wrote.

He added: 'The State Party sent out a wrong and inappropriate mailer - we will work with the Nixon campaign to send out a mailing of their choosing to the same universe of people'.
Many people, however, are calling for Berman to resign saying the literature was deeply offensive and outrageous.
New York City Bill de Blasio also found the mailer offense and said the rush apology by the state's Democratic Committee was 'laughable'.
'The mailer sent by the NY Democratic Party in the 11th hour falsely attacking Cynthia Nixon is beyond unacceptable — it’s downright Trumpian. A tweeted “apology” calling it a “mistake” is laughable. The state party must compensate the Nixon campaign immediately,' he wrote.
'Democrats everywhere should unite behind the idea that state parties and the national party have no place in primaries. When state parties put their fingers on the scales, it weakens the power of the people. The grassroots will lead us back to power — not party elites.'
Nixon is not Jewish but her two children with her ex-husband Danny Mozes are being raised Jewish. The Sex and the City actress is also a member of the Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, a LGBTQ synagogue in Manhattan.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
