«Breaking News» Family doctor accused of sexually assaulting patients and filming intimate procedures

A doctor who has been charged with sexual assault after he allegedly used secret cameras to film women during intimate examinations that he performed without surgical gloves vowed to fight the charges outside of court.

Detectives from the Wangaratta Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team charged 68-year-old Dr Stewart Moroney with sexual assault on Monday, following a series of alleged incidents at the Ely Street clinic in Victoria's north-east.

A woman reported Dr Moroney to the police after she underwent a female health exam on October 10, 2017.

She claimed he did not use surgical gloves, instead conducting the examination bare-handed.

The woman also claimed there was camera equipment in the exam room.

Outside of court today Dr Moroney said told 7 News he would 'absolutely' fight the charges.

He is accused of assaulting at least 19 women aged between 17 and 60 and the program said there could be more with claims dating back to the 1970s.

When investigators searched Dr Moroney's office and home address on November 30, they found and seized camera and computer equipment.

Detectives announced in June they had allegedly uncovered 'a number of inappropriate images of female patients' on the doctor's devices.

The police went through the footage and allegedly identified a number of female patients by cross-checking time stamps on the footage with the GP's appointment records.

Acting Superintendent Joy Arbuthnot said in June the news would be 'very distressing for the victims'.

'I don't think anyone wants to be in a position where they receive a notification from police that they have been a victim of a sexual assault,' she said.

'I understand this will be incredibly difficult for our victims to hear and we are working with a range of other agencies to ensure the right support services are in place and they are given as much information as possible about the process from here.

Acting Superintendent Joy Arbuthnot noted that Dr Moroney was a 'trusted' member of the community who had been practising in the area for 40 years

'It is likely that there are other victims who, again, may be unaware the offence has occurred.'

Acting Supt. Arbuthnot urged anyone who attended the Ely Street clinic and believed there was 'anything unusual' about their interaction with their GP to report to the police.

'We understand how concerning this will be for the broader community of Wangaratta,' she said, and further noted that Dr Moroney was a 'trusted' member of the community who had been practising in the area for 40 years.

Victoria Police said there was no evidence to suggest more than one doctor at the Ely Street clinic was involved in the alleged abuse.

Dr Moroney was interviewed by police in January and suspended from practicing.

Detectives from the Wangaratta Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
