«Breaking News» EastEnders: Jake Wood confirms he is taking a 'short break'

EastEnders star Jake Wood is taking a 'short break' from the soap early next year.

A spokesperson for the BBC soap reportedly told Digital Spy that the Max Branning actor will be having a brief hiatus from the show to take his boxing podcast, Pound for Pound, on tour.

Jake has appeared in the role of soap villain Max since 2006, but previously took breaks from the show in 2011 and 2015.

Jake himself took to Twitter on Wednesday that he would taking his boxing podcast on the road, with shows to be played in cities ranging from Liverpool to Leeds.

He wrote: 'Buzzing for this, gonna be so much fun. Can’t wait to get out on the road with @PoundPodcast.'

MailOnline has contacted representatives for EastEnders for further comment.

Max Branning has been one of EastEnders' most loved characters for many years, with his most recent storyline involving a faux marriage with Rainie Cross (Tanya Franks).

So far Max and Rainie had managed to keep their real plan secret - which was to pose as a married couple to earn custody of his baby granddaughter Abi.

But the plan could go up in smoke, as Max will inevitably discover that Rainie had a one night stand with his brother Jack.

Jake previously took an extrended break from EastEnders in 2015, when Max was wrongly jailed for the murder of Lucy Beales.

Predominantly Max's time inside was not shown on the soap, but he made a dramatic return in Christmas 2016 to enact his revenge.

This lead to a Christmas Day episode that many fans branded the show's best in years, with a rain-soaked showdown on the roof of the Queen Vic between him and daughters Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) and Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa).

The tragic aftermath saw the sisters fall from the pub roof, with Abi succumbing to her injuries after the birth of her daughter, and Lauren eventually deciding to leave the Square with her son Louie. 

EastEnders continues on Thursday 27th September at 7:30pm on BBC One.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
