«Breaking News» Bipartisan lawmakers continue to condemn USDA kitten killing experiments

The United States Department of Agriculture has been condemned once again by bipartisan lawmakers, months after it was revealed the department uses taxpayer money to fund thousands of deadly kitten experiments.

Since 1982, the USDA has been operating a program that 'involves breeding hundreds of kittens, feeding them Toxoplasma-infected raw meat for two to three weeks and collecting their feces,' Republican Congressman of Michigan, Mike Bishop, wrote in a letter to United States Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.

Then, the department harvests parasites and kills the kittens by discarding them through 'incineration,' Bishop said.

The testing, which takes place at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center in Maryland, was exposed by taxpayer watchdog group, White Coat Waste Project in the spring.

As many as 100 kittens have been used for the deadly experiments each year and at least 3,000 have died as a result.

Bishop condemned the animal testing this week to Fox News and said Congress is working to put a stop to it.

'This is inhumane what they are doing... it is blatantly inhumane,' he said.

'The Senate is now starting to help and we'll continue to pressure the USDA as well as choke off their funding if this testing continues.'

He added the issue is deeper than just wasteful government spending.

'I first started out looking into wasteful government spending...  but when I found out about this, it became even bigger and more important.'

The Kittens in Traumatic Testing Ends Now Act, or Kitten Act, was introduced in May by Democratic Congressman of California, Jimmy Panetta.

Bishop is listed online as one of the sponsors.

Republican Congressman of North Carolina, Walter Jones, who is also a sponsor, previously expressed his disapproval for the deadly kitten experiments.

'As a long-time cat owner, I was alarmed that the federal government has been secretively spending American’s tax dollars for archaic experiments on kittens, and then needlessly killing the healthy animals at the end of the project,' he said in a public statement.

'Abusing pets in government labs with taxpayers’ money has to stop and I'll continue to fight until it does.'

The USDA told Fox News: 'The cats are essential to the success of this critical research.

'The USDA does not seek adoptions of these cats because of the risk the cats could pose to their adoptive families.

'Our goal is to reduce the spread of toxoplasmosis. Adopting laboratory cats could, unfortunately, undermine that goal.'

DailyMail.com reached out to the department for further comment on the matter.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
