The Sundance Film Festival began on Thursday, with many of what will become the year's most talked about flicks set to make waves over the coming week and a half.
But Robert Redford grabbed all the initial headlines as he announced the he was moving on from the film festival he helped found, reported Deadline.
The 82-year-old actor told those in attendance at Park City's Egyptian Theatre, 'Bye bye.'

Donning a black leather jacket, The Sting star said, 'Having done this for God, 34 years now, since the festival started.'
'I think we are at a point where I can move on to a different place,' he continued.
'I've been spending a lot of time introducing things but I don't think that the festival needs a lot of introduction any more.'

The news of Redford stepping away from the festival comes on the heels of last year's announcement that his appearance in The Old Man & The Gun would be his last.
The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on August 31, 2018 and immediately garnered award buzz.
Redford ended up being nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes, but did not take home the award.

The Sundance Film Festival opened on Thursday and will run for 10 days through February 3.
The festival began in Salt Lake City in August 1978 and was co-founded by Sterling Van Wagenen.
The event moved to Park City in 1981.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
