«Breaking News» Michael Gove is 'not worried' about People's Vote

Environment Secretary Michael Gove has doubled down on his support for Theresa May's Brexit plan and warned that both no deal and a second referendum would be 'playing with fire'.

Known as a mastermind and front man of the 2016 Leave campaign, Gove now sees himself as a unifying force and an advocate for the beleaguered Prime Minister.

Theresa May has less than 90 days to push her deal through parliament before March 29 - the day earmarked for Britain to leave the European Union.

The Environment Secretary is particularly concerned about the impact of no deal Britain's agriculture industry. In an interview with The Times today he stressed that the EU could place tariffs of 40 per cent on meat exports and enact stringent border inspections at Calais.

The huge delays this would cause would, Gove says, cancel out the benefits Britain could reap by leaving the common agricultural policy.

However in Gove's opinion, there is one thing worse than the prospect of no deal - another Brexit referendum.

That is not to say he fears Remain would prevail in a second vote, in fact he is certain that Leave would win by an even bigger margin than in 2016.

Instead, his fear stems from a belief that holding another vote would bring discord, anger and mistrust to our political climate on a level not seen in generations.

People would feel patronized and hoodwinked to the point that they would never forgive today's politicians. It would even threaten the United Kingdom as it might add legitimacy to Scottish nationalists' call for another independence referendum, he warns.

'A second referendum would be worse than crashing out because of the damage it would do to our democracy,' he told the Times.

'The loss of faith people would have in our political system would be far greater than any other political or economic event in our lifetimes.'

Gove says he believes the government should deliver what the people voted for, and besides, organising a second referendum would hugely time consuming.

Those who are calling for the so-named People's Vote have yet to even decide on a question, he points out.

So Theresa's May's third way is the only viable option. And yet it seems no amount of panic over no deal will frighten the hardcore Brexiteers who prefer it to the Prime Minister's offering. In the same vein, passionate cries that holding another vote will spell the end of democracy will not persuade hardened Remainers that Britain is obliged to leave.

But Gove suggests that there is plenty to be optimistic about in Mrs May's deal.

'If we are in the backstop we have tariff-free and quota-free access to the EU market and at the same time we don't pay a penny for it and we have the capacity to say we can determine what our immigration policy can be, and critically we have access over our territorial waters,' he enthused to the Times.

He concedes that yes, the Prime Minister's deal is not perfect, but laments people's tendency to focus on the parts they dislike rather than what has been achieved in the negotiations with Brussels.

Theresa May has won his respect this past year through sheer resilience and determination, Gove says.

By stating that he firmly believes she will be Prime Minister this time next year, he cleverly avoids having to speculate on any behind-the-scenes jostling for the role of her successor.

Gove himself took a stab at the top job once before, although he missed the leadership and ended up knifing Boris Johnson.

Will he have another go? 'I'm not going to go there,' he told the Times with laugh.

But it seems he is genuinely enjoying his role as Environment Secretary. Since accepting the post in June 2017, he has surprised everyone with his palpable enthusiasm.

Britain has seen an 87 per cent reduction in singe-use plastic bags during his tenure, and he has turned his attention to microbeads, cotton buds and straws.

Even his own personal New Year's resolution is to further reduce his household's plastic use.

'Britain can lead the way in animal welfare and environmental standards,' he declared confidently.

But Brexit is always lurking in the background. While he wants to press on with his plans for the environment, he finds it infuriating that he has to waste 40 per cent of his time planning for no deal.

'The country wants us to do so much more than just Brexit,' he sighed.

Link hienalouca.com Interesting to note Looking for an investor or sponsor for a project to grow dinosaurs and relict plants. Requires the sum of investments from 400000$ to 900000$. The exact amount can not say because there are many nuances. It will be necessary to build a small laboratory with certain parameters. To all interested persons please write on an email angocman@gmail.com . It is the scientific project and I do not know whether it is possible to earn on it. The probability of success of the project is approximately 60%. That will be very interesting.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
