«Breaking News» Killer thug's mother had 'no idea' her son had just stabbed his 'joker' best friend to death

Shocking CCTV shows two best friends fighting in a park while high on cocaine just 30 minutes before one of them stabs the other to death.

West Midlands Police released the footage as Ryan Preston was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 22 years behind bars.

Preston and his friend Daniel Kennell were captured on CCTV fighting in Cauldon Castle Park in Coventry at 11.25am.

Preston is seen on the clip launching at Mr Kennell and trying to smash him over the head with a phone which is sent skittering across the ground.

The pair are then seen wrestling on the ground before Mr Kennell walks home.

Just 30 minutes later Preston storms round to his friend's home and stabs him in the chest before leaving him to die in the road.

Police bodycam footage also showed the moment Kennell was arrested by officers at his mother's home.

Detective Sergeant Daniel Jarratt, of West Midlands Police, said: 'This case outlines all too clearly the terrible consequences of carrying a knife.

'Preston didn't think twice about carrying and using one on 8th July 2018, as a result his so-called best friend lost his life.

'Tragically there are no winners in a case like this.

'Daniel was a young man who had his whole life ahead of him that was cruelly taken for no apparent reason.

'As Preston has been handed a life-sentence today, his life and that of his family have also been irrevocably damaged by his actions that day.

'Although nothing will bring Daniel back, we hope this sentence brings some closure to his family, and sends a strong message to those willing to carry knives on our streets.'

It came after the court concluded the killer's mother had 'no idea' her son had just stabbed his 'joker' best friend to death when she picked him up in her car. 

Ryan Preston knifed Daniel Kennell, both 27, once in the heart after he hid his house keys for a prank on July 8 last year. He was today jailed for life for murder.

Tracey Preston, 54, had driven her son to Kennell's house in Coventry to try and retrieve the keys. He then got out and stabbed Kennell before walking back to his mother's car, which was parked around the corner, and ordering her to drive off.

Shocked witnesses called 999 and paramedics dashed to help but Mr Kennell died at the scene.

The friends had spent July 8 last year drinking alcohol and taking cocaine before having an argument.

Mrs Preston, who was cleared of assisting an offender, said her son had called her to bring him a spare key after he was locked out of his home.

In her police interview, she told officers: 'I received a call from Ryan to say he was in Caludon Park and Danny had gone off with his keys, and can I take his spare car key to him. I said I'm shopping, and he said don't worry about it.

'When I got to the checkout I got another call from Ryan saying 'bring me my keys, mum, come to Caludon Park now'. He was p**sed off because Danny had gone off with his keys.

'He's done it before. Danny's a joker, so I didn't think anything of it. They had probably fallen out. He said Danny has put him on his a**e.'

Mrs Preston said she drove to collect her son before they went to look for Mr Kennell to retrieve his keys.

She told the court: 'He was just p**sed off that they had fallen out again, and just wanted to get his keys back.

'I was ranting at him ''I'm sick of you, I'm sick of you both, I've told you to stay away from him'.'

'They're like a pair of kids. We drove, looking out for Danny along the way.

'When we got to Danny's house in St Austell Road, Ryan got out of the car, and I said 'I'm leaving you to it, I'm going'.

'I thought boys will be boys, just let him sort it out himself.'

The court heard Mr Kennell came out of his home after seeing Preston smash the windscreen of his car with a paving slab.

Prosecutor John Butterfield QC said: 'At this stage, the defendant was indeed armed with a knife, and he lashed out with that knife at least once.

'It was a single stab wound - but that was all that Ryan Preston needed. The wound was on the left lower chest.

'It was deep enough to penetrate Mr Kennell's heart, as well as to cause damage internally to both the stomach and the spleen.'

After leaving his friend with fatal stab wounds, Preston returned to his mother's car which was around the corner and told her to drive off.

Hours after the killing Preston was arrested and tried to explain his actions, telling an officer: 'I'm coked out of my head to be fair.'

On Thursday he was found guilty of murder by a majority verdict following a three week trial at Warwick Crown Court.

Armed police arrested Preston hours later after finding him at his mother's home.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
