«Breaking News» Golden Globes scores its lowest ratings in YEARS

The Golden Globes received its lowest ratings in years - but the news isn't all bad.

With Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh hosting the annual award show, the Globes scored 18.6 million viewers - its smallest audience in three years.

But the show actually saw a 4 percent rise in ratings among the key 18-49 demographic that is so prized by advertisers.

It's an improvement following the six-year ratings low of the 2018 Golden Globes hosted by Seth Meyers, although not by much.

Yet the numbers are far lower than many were hoping for, due to the fact that the show was scheduled to directly follow the NFL Wild Card playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears.

The NFL fared far better than Hollywood's biggest stars, scoring the best NFL Wild Card ratings for NBC since 1994, according to Deadline. The nail biter of a game was watched in roughly 25.25 million households

But the Globes is hardly the only awards show that has struggled to retain viewers in recent years.

The Academy Awards were down 19 percent last year, while the Grammys were down 24 percent.

The Emmys also struggled, losing 10 percent of its total audience. All three lost viewers in the key adult demographic.

Bradley Cooper's Lady Gaga-starring passion project had been hotly tipped to take home multiple gongs – but instead just picked up a single trophy for Best Original Song.

Cooper was also beat out by Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek in the Best Actor - Drama category while Gaga lost to The Wife's Glenn Close in the Best Actress - Drama category.

At the end of the night Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King addressed the shocked crowd at the Beverly Hilton as he said: 'The power of movies is that it brings us all together.

'Freddie Mercury and Queen did that so successfully through their music and that's what we always wanted to accomplish in the cinemas.'

'To see that magic come alive and see the incredible response of this film is truly humbling. Freddie Mercury, thank you for showing us the power of embracing your true self, this one's for you.'

Olivia Colman provided another huge talking point of the night, winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her work on The Favourite and giving a stellar speech.

The 44-year-old British actress portrayed Queen Anne in early 18th century England and gave a special shoutout to her co-stars including Emma Stone whom she affectionately referred to as 'my b****es' before dropping the F-bomb.

'I'm not going to cry because my whole table will laugh at me. Thank you for the sandwiches. Thank you my b*tches Emma and Rachel!' she said.

'Every second working with you was such a joy. So much fun. I'm too excited!'

Another standout moment of the night was when Sandra Oh won history after winning Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series for her work on BBC America's Killing Eve

Perhaps the biggest shock of the night came when 71-year-old actress Glenn Close bested favorite Lady Gaga for Best Actress - Drama.

Close held back tears in her very emotional acceptance speech, revealing the role had reminded her of her mother who 'really sublimated herself to my father her whole life' and who in her '80s bemoaned "I feel I haven't accomplished anything.'"

'It was so not right,' the talented actresses said before receiving a standing ovation.

'Women, we're nurturers, that's what's expected of us. But we have to find personal fulfillment.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
