«Breaking News» Fuel theft tunnel found in Mexico City

Authorities discovered a tunnel Tuesday beneath an industrial building in Mexico City that fuel thieves dug to tap gasoline and diesel pipelines.

Mexico discovers thousands of such taps each year, but seldom are they found connected to tunnels or located in such heavily populated areas.

The tunnel was several yards long and deep, and had timber framing to prevent collapse.

The tunnel accessed four pipelines that carried fuel to a nearby tank farm. All had illegal taps drilled into them, with hoses that led out to a large parking area.

Some social media users criticized him in Spanish for not wearing any protective equipment, such as a hardhat or goggles, when entering the fuel tunnel.

Large-scale tapping operations presumably fill whole tanker trucks or industrial vehicles.

The state-owned oil company, Pemex, has found some gas being sold through licensed stations had apparently been stolen.

Such illegal taps frequently leak and catch fire, as one did January 18 in Hidalgo state, north of Mexico City.

That fire occurred as residents were gathering spilled fuel. The death toll in that fire now stands at 119; 60 percent of the injured have died.

At total of 30 people remain hospitalized, with ten  still in very critical condition.

Adding to the woes at Pemex, the Fitch ratings agency lowered the company's credit rating one step to 'AA', with a negative outlook.

The downgrade was attributed to negative cash flow and the fact that its heavy debt load makes the company essentially insolvent, though government-backed.

In December Mexico's government unveiled a plan to step up use of the armed forces to combat fuel theft, vowing to root out corrupt officials it says are largely responsible for a problem that has cost the country billions of dollars.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told a regular news conference his government would fight the theft 'outside and inside' state oil firm Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), saying authorities were complicit in the bulk of the crimes.

This is the theft of national assets, of public funds, of money that 'belongs to all Mexicans,'  he said.

Criminal gangs have for years used fuel theft as a way of supplementing their income, hurting Mexico's refineries and bleeding money from state coffers.

Speaking alongside the president, Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval said the security presence would be increased at key oil installations to better monitor distribution of fuel.

Security forces would also receive additional training for the task, Sandoval added.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
