Speaking to myBody+Soul, personal trainer Michelle Bridges and exercise scientist and trainer Victoria Burdon answered queries about the right sneakers for different exercises, questions about back pain and more.

Should I wear different trainers for weightlifting and running?
According to Victoria some shoes are made for both activities, but it all comes down to the specific type of training you're doing.
For those who are running long distance she recommends a running-specific pair.

What's the best way to blast belly fat?
Victoria said the only way to blast belly fat is to pay attention to your diet.
She suggested that those who are wanting to lose fat from the middle should reduce their overall kilojoule intake, limit the amount of processed foods, sugar and alcohol they consume, and eat more fruit and vegetables.

'Although most people think crunches are the best way to score abs, holding moves like planks are much more effective because they work your entire core,' she told the publication.

Is cardio fitness or strength training more important?
Michelle explained that cardio fitness and strength training are as important as each other.
She said this is because they have different uses that benefit each other as strength training helps maintain your bone density and build muscles while cardio work keeps your engine burning efficiently.
This means you can make the most of your muscle strength and bone density.
'If you're short on time, do a workout that targets both, such as lifting heavy weights. This will improve your muscle strength and bone density while also challenging your cardio fitness,' Michelle said.

Should I eat before or after my workout?
Victoria said when to eat all comes down to what time you normally exercise and how your body responds to it.
For example, if you lift weights on an empty stomach it will limit your ability as you won't have the required amount of glucose you need to fuel your body.
But if cardio in the morning is more your cup of tea you might prefer eating after you've worked out.
If you notice that you begin to feel light-headed during your workout that is a clear indication that you should be eating something small beforehand.
