«Breaking News» Dating expert reveals top tips for success in online dating

The whole process of online dating can be fairly daunting, especially when you're not quite sure what you're getting yourself into by signing up to the likes of Tinder, Bumble, or OkCupid, for example.

Dating expert, Andi Lew, has revealed some of her most basic tips for participating in online dating, including keeping certain aspects of your life private from the online dating world, as well as choosing the perfect photo to represent your true self.

The 45-year-old Australian wellness and dating coach said that the 'swipe' culture of online dating is making things move faster than ever, but she's urging online daters to slow down in their rush to find love.

Dating and wellness coach Andi, told FEMAIL that different social media courting tactics, such as liking someone's photos and sending them private messages, are all successful approaches to trying to secure love online.

She said: 'Courting on social media isn’t the only way to find love, but it’s certainly another way! People meet, message and even marry by sending direct messages, (DMs) privately all the time!

'Another way we flirt on Instagram is by going on a ‘liking spree’. You can like about two or three photos followed by a ‘follow’.

The Melbourne-based dating expert advised those adapting such techniques to make sure one photo is recent, an another is 'around a month ago'.

This way, she says it will show that you put a good effort in to scroll through their page.

She said: 'It usually grabs their attention as the notifications come up and chances are you’ll have a DM after this if there’s mutual interest.'

However, she warns daters not to like more than three photos in a single 'liking spree', 'as you may come across over zealous'.

The mother-of-one, whose latest book #Instalovers was published in December, added that after going on a 'liking spree', the person who liked the photos needs to wait for the person in question to notice.

Andi's top tips for being successful in online dating:

  • Keep the location of where you live private

  • Be honest about what you're looking for from online dating. If you're looking for something casual, be 'protected and prepared'

  • Keep the photos featured on your dating profile clear, and don't feature others in your photos unless they approve

  • Don't feature more than one selfie on your profile. Instead, use a photo that shows you doing something you love or something fun

  • Learn how to block people online before getting involved in the online dating world

  • Check if potential matches are real people by asking to see their other social media pages

  • Flirt by using emojis, as this helps to show 'tonality and body language'

  • Have a conversation on the phone before meeting for a date in person

She added: 'Whoever went on the ‘liking spree’ needs to sit back and wait for the other person to notice.

They can then make the next move by either following you back and liking your photos, and sending a direct message.

'It’s like smiling at someone at a bar to get their attention and waiting for them to come over and talk to you, should they be interested!'

Instagram is one thing, but more serious daters looking for potential romances now have access to different dating apps, including Tinder, Bumble, and OkCupid.

And establishing your presence on such apps is vital, according to Andi.

She advises people to be as honest as possible as they set up their profile pages on dating apps.

She said: 'Always be authentic in your description. Be honest about what you’re looking for. If you’re really only wanting something casual then make sure you’re protected and prepared!

'Keep your photos clear, no more than one selfie, and don’t put others in your profile photos unless they know and they’re okay with it!' she added.

Andi said that she has noticed some patterns in photos used on dating apps from her many years working as a dating coach.

She said: 'Women tend to have more photos to choose from because we are always taking them. Men tend to take photos when they’re drinking or on holidays!

'It’s not as common for men to be in pictures daily, so there were a lot of men with fewer quality photos.'

Andi recommends using a photo that shows you doing something fun, or something you love doing.

'Try to get your friends to photograph you doing what you love or something fun.

'A picture tells a thousand things. Look approachable by smiling in your picture or at least show something friendly in your eyes,' she added.

'Know your assets and show that in your photo. It could be your sense of fun or love of nature.

'The ones with topless selfies don’t always win. So you’re hot, what else ya got? Are you kind and selfless too?' she added.

After setting up the basic elements of a dating profile, she said some of the most important things to keep in mind are keeping some information private, and learning how to make an online conversation turn into a real-life date.

Knowing how to block people before you start exploring the online dating world, as well as keeping the location of where you live completely private, are two basic, things to do while getting started.

Once fully immersed in the online dating world and talking to potential matches, Andi says to do a couple of routine checks.

She said: 'Ascertain if they’re available and a real person by asking to see their other social media accounts.'

Once you know that they're a real, potential match, she says to make sure you're having fun while dating.

'Flirt with emojis within your messages. They help us show tonality and body language which is missing in text,' she said.

If an online conversation is successful and enjoyable, Andi says it's a good idea to speak on the phone before showing up to a blind date.

'Do make phone calls before you accept the date, but know how to block a number first too. You might be having great rapport but learn that you can’t deal with the high pitched voice or that you don’t have good banter,' she said.

'You can tell more about a person by hearing their voice. Turn the text into a call within a few days or you could be having an online relationship with an illusion of a person.'

Andi's latest book, #Instalovers, explores the world of online dating, and includes tips for getting involved.

The book also contains different dating app stories as told by Andi, after she went undercover for four years on different apps before writing her book.

#Instalovers is available for purchase on her website, where a hard copy retails for $27.99, or Amazon, where it retails as an E-book for $9.99.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
