Christian Bale thanked an unexpected entity when he accepted the Golden Globe for his role as Dick Cheney in the film Vice.
'Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration for playing this role,' he said of his Dick Cheney character in an apparent snub to the former vice president.
The political satire shows an unrecognizable Bale as Cheney, depicting the former second-in-command as the ruthless mastermind behind George W Bush's presidency, which has gotten the film large criticism by conservatives.
And it wasn't just what Bale said in his speech that sent social media ablaze - but how he said it, with viewers gushing over his strong British accent.

The Church of Satan tweeted Bale's praise at his comment, writing 'Hail Christian! Hail Satan!'
Bale's Satanic comment got plenty of laughs from Hollywood's elite Sunday night, as he continued to joke politics saying, 'What do you think, [playing] Mitch McConnell next?'
The line gained the appreciation of the Church of Satan, who wrote on Twitter: 'To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential. As Mr. Bale's own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan!'
Bale brought the comedy during his speech, posing himself as a loose lipped geezer who couldn't be trusted on stage with a microphone.
He thanked his two children and wife, revealing that ahead of the show she told him 'less is more' during his speech.
'She knows the dumb crap that can come out of my mouth at times. I can sink and ruin a perfectly good movie and so-so career in one speech. So thank you for that advice, my love,' he said.
'(Vice director Adam McKay) said, ''I've got to find somebody who can be absolutely charisma free and reviled by everybody and so it's got to be Bale in it.''' he said.
Comedian Lane Moore compared Bales' accent to a 'cartoon chimney sweep'
Meanwhile, social media was shocked by Bale's Welsh accent during his speech, as he's played iconic roles using an American accent
Other's felt Bale's accent was forced, and thought he was 'pretending to be British'
Comedian Abbi Crutchfield joked that Bale forgot to 'fank' his dialect coach
Comedian Randy Rainbow joked that Christian Bale was 'putting on a crazy accent'
Bale not only shocked the public with his unconventional speech, but sent Twitter in a frenzy as it appears many forgot he's not actually American.
Though he has made a career off iconic roles using an American accent, such as Batman, Bale is in fact Welsh-born.
Author Anna T Donahue was clearly shocked, tweeting: 'RT IF YOU FORGOT CHRISTIAN BALE HAD A BRITISH ACCENT'.
Comedian Abbi Crutchfield wrote: 'Christian Bale forgot to fank his dialect coach'.
Some felt his accent was a bit over-the-top and didn't think it fully genuine.
'I know Christian Bale is *actually* British but it still feels like he's pretending to be British as a bit,' writer and comedian Mike Drucker wrote.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
