«Breaking News» University Challenge contestants compared to 'Guess Who' characters

University Challenge viewers have gone wild for the latest batch of contestants with their fashion choices drawing comparisons to 'Guess Who' characters.

Students from St. Peter's College Oxford delighted fans as they stormed to victory in the first-round match against Pembroke College Cambridge on Monday night.

And their 225 to 50 win was matched only by team members' 'magnificent' handlebar moustaches and 'Enid Blyton' outfits.

A star was born in the form of biological sciences buff Laura Cooper, from Stockport, who was inundated with enquiries about her blue knitted jumper adorned with puffins.

Taking to Twitter during last night's show, BBC host Dan Walker tweeted: 'Is it me or is #UniversityChallenge becoming more and more like a TV version of "Guess Who"?'

She also impressed with her academic prowess, later taking to Twitter to write: 'For all enquiries as to the puffin jumper, I bought it last year from the Oxfam Originals at shop in the Northern Quarter.

'I got it cheap because it had a hole in it, hence my poor quality repairs.'

Fans were equally delighted by team captain Nick Williford from Tennessee, a British and European MA student sporting an impressive handlebar moustache that prompted comparisons to Lord Kitchener.

Twitter user Mary Lagazo quipped: 'I'm probably the only one thinking about the game [Cluedo] and Williford is Colonel Mustard.'

Another penned: 'The shirt is late to the party but Braddock, WIlliford and Cooper are rocking the shirt game.'

But it was Cooper who stole the show, with one viewer writing: 'Beret wearing, puffin sporting @trnsitionalform aces it.'

Claretini wrote: 'Cooper on #UniversityChallenge is my new style icon and really needed to be listened to more, she was hands down the best player.'

It's not the first time viewers have fawned over the fashion choices of contestants on Jeremy Paxman's BBC Two quiz show; last week ULIP student Liam Alcock was mercilessly mocked over his beret.

Laura Cooper sported a beret during this week's episode, but was quick to point out that it was to hide her hair after pulling out 'two big patches'.

After winning the first-round match with flying colours, her team will now progress to round two.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
