Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex greet well-wishers as they arrive in Chichester today
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted by roaring crowds today in the county that inspired their royal titles on their first joint official visit.
Both royals were visibly delighted at meeting several younger children in Chichester, with Harry spotted patting the head of a baby and Meghan greeting a child eating an apple who was held up to the barriers.
Pupils from a local school brought gifts for the couple - and two ten-year-old classmates presented Meghan with an A to Z of Sussex made by the youngsters.
Meghan and Harry, who were given the dukedom on the day of their wedding in May by the Queen, will be taking in Chichester, Bognor Regis, Brighton and Peacehaven during a packed day of engagements.
The couple arrived in Sussex by helicopter and will use it to get between engagements throughout the day.
Meghan was wearing a camel Armani coat, a dark green Hugo Boss skirt and shirt from And Other Stories paired with nude suede stilettos.
Harry, dressed in a grey suit and white shirt, was smiling almost nose-to-nose with a dog at one point, while Meghan also met a dog in the crowd.
Crowds in their first destination of Chichester were slow to form, but by the time they arrived there were around 1,000 people waiting to see them, many waving flags.
Harry and Meghan spent half an hour walking up and down West Street shaking hands and speaking to well-wishers. Among them were 13 children from Westbourne House School in Chichester.,
They had hand-made the royals an A-Z guide to Sussex, their new namesake. The painstakingly-made A3 book featured everything from Arundel to local celebrity Zoe Ball.

Go hell for leather like Meghan in a skirt by Hugo Boss
The Duchess of Sussex stepped out on her first official visit to Sussex and as usual looked the epitome of chic.
We’ve always loved the way Meghan puts her natural fashionable spin on royal protocol, with today’s look being the perfect example. Check out the luxe leather skirt!
It’s by Hugo Boss and we love the bottle green shade, which makes a refreshing change from traditional black. The pencil design keeps it looking elegant too. Meghan then upped the chic ante even more by finishing off with a cream coat by Emporio Armani.
She's renowned for her love of high-end pieces, but we love the way she’s mixed them in with more affordable items here. The gorgeous Gabriela Hearst satin bag will set you back just under 2k, however you can nab Meghan’s skirt for a very reasonable £369 (click right).
Even better, her & Other Stories shirt is just £69 which you can find in the edit below, along with the ring and bracelet she’s wearing by cult favourite label Missoma, which are both pleasingly affordable too! Or have a browse through more green leather options from Reiss, Vila and Sosandar.

The Duchess happily sniffed the delicate pink, green and red posy - to the delight of the schoolgirl who handed it over to her
Meghan was first to encounter the youngsters, smart in their red and grey uniforms, and said she wanted to shake each one's hand individually and find out their names. 'So, why aren't you in school,' she said. 'Are you on a school trip?'
She was handed the guide by Alex Witcombe and George Baker, both ten. 'Oh my goodness, guys, thank you, that's very cool. It's an A- to Zee (pronounced the American way).'
'We thought we would tell you some great places to go when you are in Sussex,' explained their head of year Charlotte Sleep. 'Please do come again, we love having you.'
Harry immediately spotted the youngsters and exclaimed: 'You've got a very, very similar school uniform to the one I had when I was at Wetherby School in London, all those years ago. Are you on a school trip?'
'Sort of,' said one of the boys. 'Sort of,' exclaimed Harry, 'who is your teacher?'
'We've come to see you,' their teacher, Mrs Sleep, explained. Harry stretched out his arm to shake hands, prompting Mrs Sleep to squeal: 'I'm not letting go!'
'Um, please let go,' he replied, pulling a comedy face. 'Is this like a maths lesson or a field trip?'

'This is my beautiful Year 6,' Mrs Sleep explained, 'they are form captains and deputy form captains,' - 'well done', interjected Harry - 'they made you, to help you with your travels around Sussex, an A-Z about where to go, what to eat and what to do. And we'll be quizzing you at the end!'
'Cool,' said Harry.
'We're missing double Latin!' said Tom Symington, ten.
'What, because you are here?' exclaimed the prince, and enthusiastically high-fived him. 'The fact that you got off double Latin because we are here. I think that's fantastic.' He added hurriedly: 'Although education is important!'
Later, Miss Sleep added: 'They may be going to Chichester, Bognor and Brighton but we wanted to show them there are a lot of other places in between which they can hopefully visit next time.
'They've missed their Latin test which they're happy about. But they're keen to get back for football this afternoon!'
It includes pictures of famous local produce like English wine, historic landmarks and beauty spots. Thomas said: 'We want to tell them all about Sussex because it is the best county in the world.'
Honor Pennant, ten, from Hampshire brought a bouquet of rosemary and white dahlias picked from her garden, and said: 'I love Meghan so much I named my chicken after her. I like Meghan (the duchess) because I think she is quite spritely.
Aptly, Meghan the chicken is a breed called Light Sussex. 'I hope I can give her the flowers and tell her about my chicken.'

There were huge cheers as the couple arrived in the city. Meghan appeared delighted to see the crowds and was seen dabbing the sides of her eyes and smiling as she greeted people.
Among fans she spoke to was Ellie Penfold, of Chichester, who said of Meghan: 'She looked very happy.
'We shook her hand. We told her how much we loved her wedding dress and talked about the wedding. She looked very pleased to see everyone and (was) very natural.'
The couple were greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex, Susan Pyper, and the mayor of Chichester Martyn Bell. But they spent most of their time speaking to crowds, including hordes of school children.
Tilly Palmer, nine, stood outside The Prebendal School, where she is a pupil, and said she was over the moon to meet Harry and Meghan.
She said: 'Meghan asked me what we were doing today. I said netball and she said they don't have that in the USA. We said welcome to Sussex and she shook our hands. She was lovely and very pretty. One of my classmates gave her a bunch of red roses.'
The duke and the US-born former actress then saw the rare Sussex copy of the American Declaration of Independence at Edes House.
It is one of only two contemporary handwritten ceremonial manuscript copies of the American Declaration of Independence - a nod to LA-born Meghan's nationality.
The other is in the National Archives in Washington DC.
On being shown the rare historic artefact, Meghan was vocal in her interest, saying: 'My goodness, wow, what are the chances? That's amazing.'
Carrying a small green bag in one hand, she stood with staff and told them the item was 'just incredible'.

Harry, dressed in a grey suit, brown shoes and white shirt, joked with staff before the pair sat to sign a visitors' book. Meghan wore subtle gold jewellery - a necklace, bracelet and several rings.
Before she left, Meghan spoke about the rarity of the document being in Sussex, saying: 'I just can't believe it.'
The couple were presented with books about the document and projects carried out by the county archive, as well as their own copy of the declaration. Meghan added: 'I love that.'
Outside Edes House, crowds were still enjoying the excitement of the event and hoping to catch a glimpse of the pair as they left.
Kim Martin, of Chichester, was another person who got to meet the couple. She said: 'I spoke to Harry and he said 'It's always sunny in Sussex.'
'I told Meghan how beautiful she was and she said 'Thank you very much.' They were very friendly and they spent so much time with the public.'

Later, Harry and Meghan arrived in Bognor Regis where they will officially open the University of Chichester's Engineering and Digital Technology Park.
A crowd of excited students waited to greet them and shouted words of encouragement to the couple. The site is designed to offer practical experience in partnership with local industry.
The couple met students in an animation and special effects class. Harry jokingly asked them if they had been "waiting for hours" for then to arrive.
They were shown a sequence from a film about how objects are shown to bounce in animations. Harry and Meghan then spent a few moments speaking to the students about their work.
This afternoon they will head for East Sussex, and the vibrant city of Brighton where they will visit the iconic Royal Pavilion, built by the flamboyant George, Prince of Wales, who later became the infamous Prince Regent in the 1780s.
The couple will undertake another walkabout and receive a private tour of some of the pavilion's historic and eye-catching rooms.
There will be a more serious flavour to the visit when they walk afterwards to Survivors' Network, a charity that supporters survivors of sexual violence and abuse in Sussex, where the couple will have the chance to talk to service users, volunteers and staff.
They will round off their visit in the coastal town of Peacehaven by popping into JOFF Youth Centre.
The building is a community hub that offers activities, a 'chill out' area and a music active room for local youngsters.
Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, will meet young people from youth groups across East Sussex to hear their plans round issues including mental health and emotional wellbeing.
The discussions are part of a Takeover Challenge day, a national initiative that encourages organisations to put young people into real-life decision-making positions.
The couple will next week attend the wedding of Harry's cousin, Princess Eugenie, before departing for their first Commonwealth tour, which will last three weeks and take in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.
Meghan shuns British design AGAIN: Duchess of Sussex sports a leather skirt by a US designer and an Italian coat for her first visit to the county that inspired her royal title

- Stylist says it would have been ideal time for Meghan to champion British design

She's known for championing Canadian labels on her royal engagements, but today the Duchess of Sussex missed the chance to showcase British design on her first official visit to the county that inspired her royal title.
Harry and Meghan arrived on the south coast this morning for a whistle-stop tour of Sussex, with the former Suits star opting for a cream coat from Italian design house Armani and a leather skirt by US brand Hugo Boss.
She teamed the ensemble with a black shirt from & Other Stories, which is part of the Swedish H&M group and carried a handbag from trendy New York designer Gabriela Hearst.
Celebrity stylist and designer Lucas Armitage told Femail: For Meghan’s inagural visits to the county her title hails from, I would have expected to see her pay homage to the county and country with her choice of outfit.

Meghan carried a handbag by trendy New York label Gabriela Hearst. The sold-out Nina bag is currently unavailable and customers wanting to get their hands on one have to sign up to a waiting list
'The Duchess of Cambridge is often spotted in designer that are local to the places she is visiting so it is expected of royals to sartorially select home grown talent from where ever they may visit.
'Meghan's mix of international designers and brands is a chic and appropriate look, but it would have been great to see her in something more fitting of her Sussex link.'
The Duchess also carried on her habit of using her handbag to champion an ethical message.
New York designer Gabriela Hearst is known for her ethical and sustainable manufacturing standards and the Patsy bag which Meghan carried today was a runaway success.

The widely-sought after bag sold out in every colour and currently customers can only sign up to the waiting list to buy one.
It shows that the brand clearly doesn't need a boost to its fortunes, whereas Meghan could have used the opportunity to champion a British label.
Meghan's preference for North American brands has been evident since her wedding to Harry in May 2018.
Last month it was reported that out of the 22 outfits she has appeared in since she joined the Royal Family, only two have been by British labels.

She’s mostly to be seen clad in North American designs - usually blue-chip brands including Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta.
She has also favoured legendary European fashion houses such as Prada, Dior and Givenchy.
It's believed that the influence of her best friend Jessica Mulroney may be the reason for Meghan's loyalty to little-known Canadian labels such as House of Nonie and Judith & Charles, which are closely associated with the Canadian stylist.
These brands that were hitherto unknown to the British public are naturally thrilled by the publicity boost.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
