«Breaking News» Nadiya Hussain reveals secret to her happy marriage is not arguing

Nadiya Hussain has shared the secret to her happy 13-year marriage - not arguing.

The cookbook author appeared on ITV's Lorraine, where she explained that while she and husband Abdal may disagree over certain things they've 'never had full-blown arguments'.

Nadiya, who became a fan favourite after she was crowned winner of The Great British Bake Off in 2015, credited Abdal with being patient and supportive towards her career.

'No we don't [argue]. In the 13 years we've never had full-blown arguments ever.

'We disagree on things, but we're two very different people and we think differently but we don't argue,' she told the daytime presenter.

The mother-of-three, who also spoke about her battle with anxiety and told how a recent panic attack left her bed-ridden for three days, later hit back at a person on Twitter who accused her of 'whinging about mental health'.

The user with the handle @alfredoshead directly responded to Nadiya: 'Awww...another overpaid so called celeb whining about mental health problems "ordinary" people have to put up with every day and just get on with...[sic]'

She carefully responded: 'Your attitude is the reason why mental health issues are brushed under the carpet. Sickness of the heart body and mind does not discriminate, it doesn't pick and choose.

'It can affect anyone. Stop being so ignorant. If you can't be a part of the solution don't add to the problem.'

But the Twitter troll wasn't finished, adding: 'Good for you. You call sitting in front of a camera and picking up a big cheque to whine about your problems being brave? Takes all sorts I suppose.'

'If it takes all sort then there might be an explanation for you're attitude . Which by the way is misinformed, ignorant and petty,' Nadiya said.

Her appearance on Lorraine may have been tinged with negativity online, but the outspoken businesswoman encouraged others to be more respectful of other people's struggles.

Nadiya has enjoyed an illustrious career since winning the baking competition, going on to appear on numerous cooking and baking shows as well as releasing several cookbooks and novels.

The busy mum explained the reason she and her husband work so well together is because they've both been happy to take a back seat - and take on more of the work at home - at different times in order to allow the other to focus on their career.

'When I first got married someone said to me it's half and half, it's 50-50,' she said.

'But really early on I realised that in any relationship someone is always putting in more.

'At the beginning, definitely for the first eight years, he had this amazing career and he went off and did some amazing things.

'I was at home, while he had a career I was at home looking after the children, the home, and I definitely felt like I put a lot more in than he did.'

Now the couple enjoy their own balance: 'I think if you're always striving for half and half that's where you fight and I just think we never have half and half.

She added: 'If he didn't support me right now then I wouldn't be here right now, he is looking after the kids, so I am definitely putting less into the relationship right now!'

She has been open about her ongoing battle with a panic disorder, and said on Lorraine that she sometimes tries to hide how she's feeling from her children but said 'they know and it's hard'

Nadiya has been open about her ongoing battle with a panic disorder, stemming from a terrifying racist attack she suffered during her school days at the age of seven.

She said to presenter Lorraine Kelly that, for those suffering with a mental health disorder, they can become 'really good at faking it and lying essentially'.

'Being a parent you want to be strong for your kids and ninety percent of being a parent is not telling the truth.

'I'm forever making it out like I have got it all together and I know what I'm doing. The truth is I haven't got a clue what I'm doing.

She encouraged others to be more honest and talk about it more: 'I only had a panic attack about five weeks ago and I was in bed for three days and the kids, sometimes it's easier to lock the door.

'But the kids know, it is hard sometimes.'

As a first-generation Muslim Bangladeshi born and brought up in Luton, the mother-of-three experienced racism from some of her white classmates at primary school who bullied her for her dark skin.

Lorraine is on weekdays on ITV at 8.30am

Nadiya,...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
