«Breaking Pic News» Celtic assistant surprised McGregor escaped punishment for kick

Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies has expressed surprise that Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor escaped punishment for a kick at Parkhead defender Kristoffer Ajer.

And intense criticism of the SFA's disciplinary review system increased last night after Aberdeen lost their appeal against a fiercely-debated red card for defender Mikey Devlin during Saturday's home defeat to Kilmarnock.

Aberdeen declared themselves 'disappointed' by the verdict following the latest in a series of contentious decisions delivered by a new system of three former referees reviewing video evidence of incidents missed by match officials.

Already this season, Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has had a red card controversially overturned on appeal. And Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke has lashed out at the SFA after they stood by a disputed red card for Gary Dicker.

Drawn into the furious row following McGregor's reprieve for lashing out at Ajer in the 25th minute of Celtic's 1-0 win last Sunday, Davies admitted: 'I was surprised. From my point of view, I was just pleased that our player wasn't injured in the game.

'It's one of those and it was discussed a lot after the game.

'Everybody said quite clearly what they thought about the incident.

'We are surprised no action has been taken but it would be worthless worrying too much about it. We move on.'

To merit a red card for violent conduct under FIFA rules, a player must be deemed guilty of using 'excessive force' or 'brutality'.

Asked to look at the incident individually after the match officials missed it, three former referees appointed by the SFA failed to unanimously agree that the incident should be referred to the Compliance Officer to offer a Fast Track penalty.

'Those looking at it will make the decision they feel is right,' added Davies.

'For me, you could see what the goalkeeper did. It was quite obvious. But they will come to the decision they feel is right.

'What can we do about that? It's done. We can't worry about it and focus on Allan McGregor.'

Davies confirmed that the physical demands of Scottish football could delay new signing Daniel Arzani's introduction to the first team by weeks after the player's lack of pre-season training.

Playing down suggestions that Scottish football has a higher tolerance of aggression than elsewhere, however, Davies added: 'Generally, the aggression, physicality and intensity of the British game, and Scotland in particular, is one of its greatest assets.

'But this (McGregor) incident wasn't natural aggression or competing in that way. This was something isolated and different to that.

'Physicality is part of football and we would be the first people to say we want that to remain. But this is a different incident we are discussing,' added Davies, who was promoting Saturday's star-studded A Match for Cancer at Celtic Park.

Aberdeen became the latest club to query a decision reached by video review after Devlin was sent off for an alleged tug on Kilmarnock striker Eamonn Brophy.

Dons boss Derek McInnes claimed after the game that referee Craig Thomson's decision was 'debatable to say the least'.

Yesterday a Pittodrie statement read: 'The club has this morning received confirmation it has been unsuccessful with the appeal for the red card shown to Michael Devlin last weekend.

'We are extremely disappointed with this outcome, which will now mean Michael misses our important league match against St Johnstone after the international break.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
