«Breaking News» Why Meghan Markle is turning to black as her go-to colour for official engagements

Meghan is turning to black as her go-to colour to stop her outfits from 'taking away' from the people she meets at royal engagements, experts say. 

She stunned in a series of pale pink ensembles immediately after her wedding, but the Duchess of Sussex, 37, has worn predominantly black on her official appearances since her summer break - including the £2,510 Givenchy dress she wore on her first solo engagement at the Royal Academy of Arts on Tuesday. 

Meghan also wore a black Altuzarra suit for the WellChild Awards earlier this month, and a Judith & Charles' black tuxedo dress at the Hamilton gala performance in London.  

Meanwhile, the royal also wore an all-black ensemble beneath a blue coat at the launch of her charity cookbook last week, while sticking to navy and black at the Core Awards on Tuesday.

At her early engagements after the royal wedding - like her first Trooping the Colour on June 9 2018 - Meghan leaned towards the softest shades of pastel pink

Experts say that Meghan's choice of black suggests that she wants to prevent her outfits detracting from the people she meets or causes that she is supporting at royal engagements. 

Karen Haller, the UK’s leading Applied Colour Psychology Specialist, told FEMAIL: 'Looking at the occasions when the Duchess of Sussex is wearing black, this would suggest to me from a colour psychology perspective she is OK with not being in the limelight, not wanting to have the focus on her. 

'Black has the ability have the wearer almost disappear and not be noticed. This looks to be her way of deflecting attention off herself and onto the causes she is supporting – putting them in the spotlight and centre stage.'   

Celebrity stylish Rochelle White agreed that Meghan is trying to 'keep it simple' by sticking predominantly to black.

The Duchess of Sussex also stuck with black and navy when she attended the Core Awards at Loughborough University on Tuesday (above) 

'Meghan knows that everyone is paying close attention to her and everything that she wears,' she said. 

'I feel she is very conscious on the outfits she picks that are not only trendy, smart and eye-catching but won’t take away from what is dong.'

She noted that Meghan appears to be opting for a lot of tailoring of late, suggesting she wants people to focus on the work she is doing. 

'I think that Meghan is going for a more tailored approach as it comes across as business-like,' Rochelle said.

Shortly after joining the royal family, Meghan opted for a wardrobe mainly consisting of pale pinks and blush colours. 

Experts have previously described this as 'passenger pink', a colour chosen by high profile women married to powerful men to subtly demur to their partners.   

However, others suggested that the Duchess's choice of pink was to 'sub-consciously communicate through colour that she's clearly in love'.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
