«Breaking News» Watford 1-2 Manchester United - THINGS YOU MISSED

Manchester United ended Watford's perfect start to the season as they emerged 2-1 winners at Vicarage Road on Saturday night.

Romelu Lukaku put the visitors ahead with a close-range effort on 35 minutes, before Chris Smalling doubled the lead shortly after with a thumping volley.

Andre Gray pulled one back for the Hornets in the second-half, but United held on to secure their second win on the bounce. Here, Sportsmail takes a look at the things you might have missed from Saturday's late kick-off.

Ferdinand's Freudian slip

Whether he intended to or not, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand hilariously hinted at just how far expectations have fallen at Old Trafford during BT Sport's coverage of Saturday's game.

'I see Man United coming here and causing an upset,' Ferdinand said in the build-up to the late kick-off.

Regardless of how well Javi Gracia's men are currently playing, when a victory away at Watford constitutes 'an upset' for the 20-time Champions of England, you know the mighty have well and truly fallen.

Pogba joins the United 100-club

It's been a fascinating six months for Paul Pogba. A World Cup winner with France over the summer, the midfielder has been under the spotlight for different reasons in recent weeks as he was linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

All, it appears, is not quite right between club and player, with La Liga champions Barcelona further muddying the waters this summer by registering an interest.

On Saturday, attention rightly returned the 25-year-old's footballing ability as the official United Twitter account celebrated his 100th appearance for the Red Devils.

A timely reminder of Pogba's importance to not only the Old Trafford side's present, but also their future too.

Lukaku rubbing shoulders with greats

In tapping home the opener at Vicarage Road, Romelu Lukaku reached the 20-goal mark for Manchester United in the Premier League.

It took Lukaku only 39 appearances to reach that tally and only three players have reached the mark for United in fewer games than the Belgian - Ruud van Nistelrooy (26), Robin van Persie (32) and Dwight Yorke (34).

United may end up eventually paying Everton £90million for his services, but even then it will probably still turn out to be money well spent if the striker continues in the same vein.

'Killmonger' nets for visitors

Eagle-eyed social media users were quick to make a comparison between Chris Smalling and Killmonger from the film Black Panther in light of the United defender's new haircut.

Smalling struck the visitors' second of the game at Vicarage Road, leading to 'Killmonger scores for United' jokes aplenty on Twitter.

 Watford missing their lucky charm

Harry the Hornet stood down from Mascot duties at Vicarage Road earlier this week.

In their first game of the post-Harry the Hornet era on Saturday, Watford slipped to a 2-1 defeat. Crucially, their record at home before his departure read: Played 3, won 3.

Javi Gracia and Co clearly need to find a new lucky charm - and quick.

Andre ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
