British intelligence are hunting a medic known as Dr Novichok they say accompanied the hitmen sent to poison ex-spy Sergei Skripal.
Security services are searching for the medic along with a fourth man believed to have protected the Russians behind the Salisbury nerve agent attack.
It comes days after the identities of the suspects were given as Ruslan Borishov and Alexander Petrov, both of which police believe are assumed names.
Dr Novichok could have been involved to avoid cross-contamination, a Whitehall source told The Sunday Mirror.

The poisoning suspects have previously claimed that they were only in Salisbury to visit its cathedral (pictured)
Another role they believe the medic may have had was to ensure police and the NHS were not involved if one of the attackers accidentally poisoned himself.
The insider said Borishov and Petrov - both of whom claim to be innocent tourists - could have met the other two suspects after checking in at City Stay Hotel in Bow, East London.
The pair then took a train from Waterloo to Salisbury, Wiltshire, where Novichok was smeared on the door of the house in which Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, lived.
It is believed that the poisoners met with Dr Novichok and another accomplice from the embassy after staying at this East London hotel
Officers are believed to know the real identities of Petrov and Borishov, who are thought to be using assumed names
The source said it is believed they could have met a handler who worked at the embassy and that the medic may have been in an oversight role.
Other insiders claim that police know the real identity of Petrov and Borishov, adding hundreds of officers have been 'trawling CCTV' with 'facial recognition software' that could match them with passports used in the years that led up to the attack.
Former spy Sergei, 67, and 34-year-old daughter Yulia both made a full recovery after the poisoning.

But Dawn Sturgess, 44, later died after she handled Novichok that was dumped in a perfume bottle.
A spokesman said the Metropolitan Police is not prepared to respond on speculation relating to an ongoing investigation.
He added that the force continues to appeal to the public for information relating to the two men while they were in the UK from March 2 to March 4.

It comes days...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
