The Pentagon says the retired Navy admiral who oversaw the raid that killed Osama bin Laden resigned from a Defense Department advisory board, after his criticism of President Donald Trump's decision to revoke a former CIA director's security clearance.
Lt. Col. Michelle Baldanza, a Pentagon spokeswoman, says William McRaven, former head of U.S. Special Operations Command, left the Defense Innovation Board on August 20.
Former head of U.S. Special Operations Command William McRaven, who it emerged resigned from the Defense Innovation Board four days after attacking Donald Trump over his treatment of John Brennan
That was four days after he wrote in The Washington Post that Trump's actions revoking former CIA Director John Brennan's security clearance 'embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation.'
The letter continued: 'If you think for a moment that your McCarthy-era tactics will suppress the voices of criticism, you are sadly mistaken. The criticism will continue until you become the leader we prayed you would be.
'Few Americans have done more to protect this country than John. He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don't know him.
'Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.'
Trump was heavily criticized by the respected Navy veteran after he revoked John Brennan's security clearance
Trump was surprisingly measured with his response.
'I don’t know McRaven,' Trump said before boarding Air Force One to go to a fundraiser in the Hamptons after the letter was published, the New York Post reports.
Trump revoked Brennan's clearance last month, saying he felt he had to do something about the 'rigged' Russian election interference probe.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
