«Breaking News» Maurizio Sarri opens the door for John Terry to return to Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri has offered an open invitation for John Terry to join his coaching staff but said the former Chelsea and England captain had told him his intention was to play for at least one more year.

Sarri made it clear he had no interest in signing 37-year-old as a player because it would limit the opportunities for young central defenders such as Ethan Ampadu.

Terry is a free agent and has been training occasionally at Chelsea's training ground after spending a season in the Championship with Aston Villa, which remains a possible destination.

The 37-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Aston Villa at the end of last season

Last week, a potential move to Spartak Moscow fell through and his former team-mate Frank Lampard has confirmed there will be no reunion at Derby.

Sarri said: 'The last time I spoke with him, about a week ago, he told me that he wants to play for another season.

'It's up to him. I think it is right that he tries to play. But if he wants to help us, I'm really very happy.

'Chelsea is his home, of course. Here, he's a point of reference. His presence alone would be very important for everybody here.

'I am very open with him because he is the history of the club. He has won everything with the club.'

Sarri told a news conference on Friday that he is interested in the Chelsea icon joining his staff

Asked about the possibility of Terry joining Chelsea as a player, Sarri said: 'It would be on the coaching staff, I think, because, as I've said before, we want to give space to the young players.

'Fortunately, we have very strong young players; (Ruben) Loftus-Cheek, (Callum) Hudson-Odoi, Ampadu, and I'd like to give them the right space.

'I hope, in the future, I will be able to give him space, and give a space to Odoi and Loftus-Cheek.

'They are very, very young and they are, for sure, the future of the club.'

Loftus-Cheek is a doubt for the game against Cardiff as Chelsea return to Premier League action following the international break.

Sarri said the midfielder had returned with a 'little problem' with his right leg.

Emerson Palmieri and Davide Zappacosta have been laid low with a fever but Cesc Fabregas is close to a return after a knee problem.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
