«Breaking News» Mauricio Pochettino got it wrong against Liverpool

I didn't have a particular problem with Mauricio Pochettino trying something different and setting up with a midfield diamond on Saturday.

What shocked me — because I’m a huge fan of the Spurs manager — is that he didn’t alter the system after it quickly became clear it wasn’t working. When Spurs came out the same way for the second half, I knew Liverpool would win the game.

Pochettino set up the 4-4-2 diamond to counter Liverpool’s 4-3-3. Fair enough. It hinted at showing Jurgen Klopp’s side too much respect, but managers are entitled to try to solve problems their way. But a pattern emerged straight away of Spurs being ripped apart playing like that.

Harry Winks and Eric Dier as the wider players in the diamond were caught in no-man’s land, chasing Liverpool’s central midfield players and wingers and getting close to none of them. Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose pushed upfield as normal and were caught out when Liverpool attacked.

I’ve heard it said that players, not systems, win matches. Utter rubbish — and I told managers that if they ever came out with the cliche in the dressing room. Yes, you need good players but the way you set up is important, too. How do you think Leicester City won the Premier League?

I love Pochettino but he has to take responsibility for this defeat. He could have changed it after 20 minutes. Mousa Dembele was isolated at the base of the diamond.

The game also showed how important it is for the big clubs to have their top goalkeeper available. It’s hard to have two world-class goalkeepers on your books because they’ll both want to play every week.

Michel Vorm was arguably at fault for both Liverpool goals and isn’t close to Hugo Lloris in terms of quality. But it’d be the same at Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool. They’d suffer as well if Ederson, David de Gea or Allison was out.

Liverpool have won five out of five and inevitably hype about a title challenge will grow. As players, the most important thing is to maintain the intensity and drive on the training ground.

If anyone is tempted to do bring out the ‘Olés’ on the training ground because the team are flying high, it’s up to the senior players like James Milner and Jordan Henderson to put them right.

Everyone at the club has a great example of how to be a leader on the pitch — Roberto Firmino. The work he does up front is phenomenal and sets the tone.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
