Sergio Aguero continued his prolific strike rate at The Etihad Stadium as Manchester City warmed up for their important Champions League clash in Hoffenheim with a comfortable victory.
Aguero guaranteed City would take the points when he finished off a neat one-two with Raheem Sterling to score his 15th goal in City’s last 11 Premier League games at home. He has also scored as many league goals for City, 148, as Alan Shearer managed for Newcastle.
Earlier, Sterling had given Pep Guardiola’s team the lead as the champions returned to the top of the table, with the previous leaders Liverpool facing Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Manager Pep Guardiola gave his side the thumbs up as they continued their impressive start to the new campaign
City have scored 21 goals in their seven Premier League games this season – a better strike rate than the record 106 they got last season.
And their fans were relaxed enough for a cheeky chant of “Jose Mourinho..we want you stay” in a dig at rivals Manchester United.
City’s thoughts will now turn to Tuesday night in Germany where they will have to bounce back from a defeat against Lyon in their opening European fixture.
Brighton hadn’t beaten Manchester City since 1989 when Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister but Pep Guardiola’s side are a different animal nowadays to the Ian Brightwell era.
Even with a makeshift left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko deputising for the injured Benjamin Mendy, they dominated the opening 29 minutes without reward, Aguero and Leroy Sane going close.

But just as Brighton relaxed a little after surviving the opening onslaught, they fell behind. Sane’s pace always looked the biggest threat to Albion’s organisation and the German provided the outlet for City’s opener.
After Bernardo Silva had carried the ball into Brighton’s half, he fed Aguero who in turn set Sane free wide on the left.
Once into his stride there was nobody in the Albion defence able to get near the winger and Sane had time to pick out Sterling with a low cross that was turned in from close range.
It was Sterling’s fourth goal of the season and incredibly the winger’s 46th goal for City since he last netted for England in October 2015.
He then came close to adding his and City’s second goal of a one-sided afternoon with a fierce rising strike that was beaten away by Ryan at the near post.

Ryan then saved another shot, from longer distance, by Fernandinho, as Brighton tried to stem the tide with some rougher challenges, Shane Duffy booked for going into the back of David Silva.
City started the second half quickly looking for the killer second goal. Kyle Walker fizzed a shot wide and Sane headed into the ground and over when picked out by Bernardo Silva.
Aguero then had a fierce strike blocked with David Silva denied by Ryan’s fingertips on the rebound.
The goal did eventually come after 65 minutes when Aguero had upped the tempo by wriggling past a couple of Brighton challenges outside the penalty area.
The Argentine spotted Sterling free on the left and once he’d passed, he dashed into the penalty area where the return ball was delivered at perfect pace.

Aguero doesn’t miss many of those and his sidefoot finish from eight yards gave Ryan no chance.
The striker was immediately replaced by Gabriel Jesus as Pep Guardiola rested his legs for Germany, and Sane followed soon after to a standing ovation from The Etihad. David Silva also got one of those when he came off for the final change.
City fans were in good mood, chanting “Don’t sack Mourinho..we want him to stay”.
Brighton will be glad to have avoided conceding six like Huddersfield or five like Cardiff against Guardiola’s side. But their possession count of 21% told its own story.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
