«Breaking News» M40 closed after two crashes and a lorry fire during morning rush hour

A driver has died after three lorries crashed into each other and burst into flames on the M40 just after another truck went up in smoke on the other side of the road.

Commuters described 'visions of hell' on the motorway this morning after the night of road horror closed the M40 in both directions between junction 15 near Henley in Arden and junction 16 near Warwick.

The road will remained closed well into this evening with frustrated motorists taking to social media to post images of huge tailbacks.

A 40-year-old man driving one of the lorries involved three-vehicle crash died at the scene, despite paramedics' desperate bid to save him. Another truck driver, a man in his 60s, was treated for serious injuries and taken to hospital, while the third was uninjured.

Angry drivers stuck in queues face further chaos after a fourth lorry got into trouble between junctions 13 and 14 northbound. The broken down heavy goods vehicle has closed two of three lanes.

One video from the scene shows the lorry shooting out flames before exploding with a loud bang into a bigger fireball.

Recovery operations are currently in place on both sides of the motorway, where the burnt out vehicles are being dealt with.

Motorist Janet Moss, 45, said: 'I was driving south past the junction at around 4.45am and the scene was like a vision from hell.

'There were fire engines everywhere and the lorries were engulfed in a fireball.

'I was convinced it was a fatality but I've heard on the radio the drivers managed to escape. It's a miracle really.'

M40 motorists are unable to get onto the M42, creating gridlock traffic on many of the roads south of Birmingham.

'I must have been sat there about an hour a half waiting before the police waved us through.'

School teacher John Wilson, 30, of Warwick, said: 'I drive that stretch of road every day to work in Solihull and the two fires must have been opposite each other.

'I've read on Twitter that the lorries crashed when they were distracted by the fire on the opposite side of the road.'

'Due to the severity of the incident, all lanes were closed whilst the emergency services dealt with the scene.

'These incidents have caused significant disruption for many, but we are working closely with Warwickshire Police and the Highways Agency and our priority is to make the area safe and open the M40 again as soon as possible.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
