An inmate who tried to rape a NYPD officer inside a Brooklyn courthouse on Friday was thwarted by another defendant, according to police sources.
Jeriah Bamugo, 26, was being taken before a judge for arraignment for groping and assault charges, when he attacked the woman. He had been caught twice this week.
The officer tried to transport Bamugo and another inmate from a holding cell into a courtroom at the Schemerhorn Street courthouse at approximately 11.20am, the New York Post reports.
The suspect then allegedly grabbed the officer's neck, pinned her to a wall and snarled 'I'm going to have sex with you.' He is also said to have ripped off the woman's belt while clawing at her pants.

The pair fell to the floor but the other inmate quickly stepped in and pushed Bamugo off the woman. Her partner rushed in from the outside area to help the officer.
'She was trying to transport him between cells,' a source with law enforcement said. 'And he threw her to the floor and tried to sexually assault her. Thankfully, he was unsuccessful. Another inmate saved her.'
Another source stated: 'Officers responded within 30 seconds. I saw one guy sprint back into the cells. The inmates immediately started screaming.'
The officer has not been identified but has been placed on modified duty. She did not have a gun her at the time of the assault
'She's a little shaken up but thankfully she's OK,' a source added.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Bamugo had been twice arrested this week.
He was charged with stalking and harassment on Monday but was released on his own recognizance.
The man was detained again on Thursday after he allegedly grabbed a 52-year-old woman's breast at 2.30pm in East Flatbush.
Before fleeing the scene, he is said to have punched the woman in the shoulder.
He was charged with forcible touching and assault as a result.
Bamugo is expected to be charged with attempted rape of an officer, according to police.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
