«Breaking News» The Hundred yet to find its feet as trials for new format get under way

When the ECB unveiled their format for the Hundred earlier this summer, it was met with derision, bemusement and laughter. 

The joke here on Friday was that neither of the two sides on show for one of the first trials of the format needed 100 balls to finish the contest.

The match, played by select women's sides — the Blacks and the Blues — was over in 126 balls. The Blues, who batted first, were all out in 52 minutes before the Blacks reached their target of 71 in 42 minutes and with 45 balls to spare. 

The Hundred format has begun trials with dozens of different variations set to be tested

The sides bowled in spells of two five-ball overs from the same end. Within that, there was also the option of one bowler per side having two consecutive five-ball overs at the same end. 

Kirstie Gordon did so for the Blacks and Helen Fenby for the Blues. The belief was that this could keep a batter on the ropes.

However, the reality was that towards the end of their spells, both bowlers were unable to maintain their consistency.

The players gave feedback to the ECB on the format on Friday night before trials at Loughborough on Friday and at Trent Bridge Saturday and Monday.

Whatever their observations are, there is a way to go if the ECB want the last laugh.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
