«Breaking News» 'He is not the president of all the people': says US House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

A U.S. House of Representative hopeful once again criticized Trump's administration of handling Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, days after revealing her grandfather was among those who died in the storm's aftermath.

Progressive Democrat congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reiterated her position Monday on Edicion Digital, Univision's daily midday newscast, a day after bashing President Donald Trump on CNN's State of the Union.

'What we need to do right now is recognize that the tragedy still exists in Puerto Rico,' Ocasio-Cortez said on Univision.

'There are still people who don't have their homes. There are still people that don't have access to clean water and there are still people that still don't have electricity in their towns. ... He is not the president of all the people here in the United States. He wants to be the president for some people in the United States.'

The US House of Representative candidate called for the congressional support of a $146 million Marshall Plan bill to help the island the island recover from its worst natural disaster.

Last Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez took President Donald Trump to task after his tweet dismissed the official death toll in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

'3,000 did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths,' Trump wrote. 'As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000...'

The late August revelation of an independent study conducted by researchers at The George Washington University raised the number of deaths from Hurricane Maria to an estimated 2,975 from 64.

'My own grandfather died in the aftermath of the storm. Uncounted. Thousands of Puerto Ricans have similar stories. They have lost children, friends, & family members,' Ocasio-Cortez responded on her Twitter account.

'Instead of finger-pointing, INVEST in the Marshall Plan for Puerto Rico + just transition to renewable energy.'

Ocasio-Cortez was also critical of Puerto Rico's political status as a Commonwealth on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday morning.

The island's current standing as an unincorporated territory with no voting rights in congress, she said, is equaled to a 'modern-day colonial relationship'.

'Puerto Ricans are technically American citizens but do not have the right to vote [in federal elections]. They are treated in completely different ways as normal American citizens are,' Ocasio-Cortez said.

'And for that reason you have the chronic neglect of the island. It is acute situations like this in which Puerto Ricans continue to be treated like second-class citizens. They did not even have the capacity to choose this President, yet they continue to suffer at the hands of this administration.'

Progressive Democrat congressional candidate Alexandria...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
